CARTERSVILLE, Ga. (July 29) - Richie Stephens of Phenix City, AL picked up his series leading 11th win of the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season on Saturday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL. The "Rocketman" leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region with 772 points based on his best 16 finishes in 26 starts.

After 18 weeks of NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition, Stephens leads Adam Martin of Talladega, AL by 14 points. Martin has 758 points based on his best 16 finishes in 17 starts. Blake Stewart of Centre, AL, who did not compete this weekend, is third with 730 points based on his best 16 finishes in 17 starts.

Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL took his third win of the season on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL, and is fourth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region standings with 707 points based on his best 16 finishes in 18 starts. Larry Harrod of Plains, GA is fifth with 662 points based on his best 16 finishes in 18 starts.

Dana Eiland of Salem, AL finished second to Stephens on Saturday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway to move up to the sixth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region standings with 656 points in 16 starts. Anthony Meadows of Lanett, AL is seventh with 651 points in 16 starts.

Brian Ponder of Talladega, AL finished second to Elkins on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track, and moved up to the eighth spot in the East Region standings with 631 points in 15 starts. Dillon Crim of Eastaboga, AL is ninth with 617 points based on his best 16 finishes in 22 starts.

The defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region Champion Logan Yates finished third on Saturday night at TST, and climbed into the top ten of the East Region points with 610 points in 14 starts.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region action during Week 18, Steve Barnett of Franklin, IN posted his fifth win of the season on Thursday night at Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, IN. Although Barnett is tied for 20th in the East Region standings with 480 points in 10 starts, his 48 points per race average is second to Stephens, who has a 48.3 points per race average. Brownstown Speedway will run a double-points race on August 9.

There were three first-time winners in East Region action over the weekend with Scott Knowles of Lanett, AL taking the win on Friday night at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL, Jim Moon of Zionsville, IN won on Saturday night at Montpelier Motor Speedway in Montpelier, IN, and Jimmy Kay of Taylorsville, GA was the winner on Saturday night at Fort Payne Motor Speedway in Fort Payne, AL.

Montpelier Motor Speedway will host a NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region event on Saturday night, and Fort Payne Motor Speedway will host double-point events for the next three weeks on August 2, August 9, and August 16.

There was limited action in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region during Week 18, with Cliff Williams of Star, MS picking up his first win of the season on Friday night at Southern Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS. The three races scheduled for Saturday night at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS, A1 Raceway in Slidell, LA, and Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL were all rained out.

The defending and two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS continues to lead the West Region standings with 717 points based on his best 16 finishes in 19 starts, and holds a 50-point lead over Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS, who has 667 points based on his best 16 finishes in 21 starts.

Josh Huss of Flomaton, AL is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region standings with 607 points in 15 starts, and Chris Griffin of Flomaton, AL is fourth with 546 points in 14 starts. Ben McCreary of Baldwyn, MS is fifth with 514 points in 11 starts. Tracy Sutton of Brewton, AL is sixth with 478 points in 12 starts, and Herman Reynolds of Laurel, MS is seventh with 474 points in 13 starts.

Talbert Goldman of Meridian, MS is eighth in the West Region standings with 471 points in 12 starts, and Larry Murphy of Meridian, MS is ninth with 460 points in 11 starts. Mark Clifton of Brewton, AL rounds out the top ten in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings with 459 points in 10 starts.
