Moler Raceway Park WILLIAMSBURG, Ohio (July 19) - The SUNOCO American Late Models Series made their first stop at Moler Raceway Park July 18th. The local boys of MRP showed the traveling crew that the southern, Ohio guys are not easy to beat.
Barry Doss of Sardinia, Ohio started off the evening setting fast time over the 25 entrants with a time of 12.965 followed closely by series regular Rusty Schlenk with a 12.996.
In the Alms Late Model feature, it looked like it may be business as usual for the series regulars with Rusty Schlenk grabbing the lead on lap 1 on a excellent track. Schlenk went straight to the top side with Barry Doss and Brian Ruhlman in hot pursuit. Schlenk continued to fly around the top as the top three cars entered lapped traffic on lap 13 giving Doss the chance he needed, Doss powered by up high as Schlenk looked to the bottom, Doss only held the top spot for 1 lap before Schlenk was able to pass him back in traffic. On lap 15 Doss returned the favor going by Schlenk to regain the lead, for the next several laps Schlenk tried The Boss low but Doss would keep his momentum up on the high side to regain command down the straights. On lap 28 Schlenk again was able to get by Doss in traffic to lead a lap while Doss continued to pick his way through traffic running both the high and low lines . The Boss Barry Doss took command in the final 10 laps weaving through traffic and starting to pull his biggest lead of the race. Meanwhile racing back in the pack was excellent with Jason Montgomery and Brian Ruhlman in a dogfight for the third spot for much of the race. Montgomery started in the the 9th spot and had a excellent charge to the front going till catching Ruhlman for third. Mike Meyers and Billy Williams may have had the best runs of the evening as Meyers started 15th and fought his way all the way to 5th at checkered flag, while Williams tagged the tail of the B main, transferred and then came from 17th to finish 7th in the feature. Other notable runs were turned in by Terry Smart and Dillon Huron, both started in the last row and Smart came home 11th while Huron came home 12th. At the finish the top ten were Doss, Schlenk, Montgomery, Ruhlman, Meyers, Bowersock, Williams, Stapleton, Amell and Dan Hurt .
