Delph Communications MENOMONIE, Wisc. (July 9) - Jimmy Mars had an outstanding 4th of July holiday weekend, as the Menomonie, Wisconsin native racked up wins number eight and nine on the 2008 season! His busy weekend started off at the nearby Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie, Wisconsin, as the Rumble Dirt Series sanctioned a $5,000 to win event on Thursday and Friday, July 3-4. Jimmy won his heat race and the dash on Thursday to earn the pole position for the 50-lap main event on Friday. He then took the lead at the drop of the green flag during the A-Main and comfortably led all fifty circuits to record the $5,000 triumph over Jeff Wildung, Nick Anvelink, Pat Doar, and A.J. Diemel.
The dirt-slinging action then turned south to the Fairbury American Legion Speedway in Fairbury, Illinois on Saturday evening, July 5. The UMP Summernationals tour invaded Fairbury on Saturday and a $10,000 top prize was up for grabs. Jimmy laid down the fastest lap in his group during qualifying and later won his heat race. After starting third on the grid for the A-Main, the driver of the Deppe Enterprises / Baileigh Industrial / ESSI Motorsports / Keyes Chevytown / Pro Power Racing Engines #28 machine took the lead from Brian Shirley on lap eleven. Jimmy held the point throughout the remainder of the race to pick up his ninth win of '08 over Shirley, Darren Miller, Ryan Dauber, and Steve Sheppard, Jr.
"It was a great weekend for us, to say the least," exclaimed Mars via telephone last night. "After the disappointment at Lernerville, it was great to rebound with a pair of victories at Red Cedar and Fairbury. Those are a couple of my favorite tracks, so I was really pleased to have our cars perform as well as they did. I have to thank my brother Chris for all of the hard work that he puts into our program and he really has our cars dialed in right now. Hopefully, that will continue throughout the Wild West Tour with the Outlaws."
Following the stellar weekend at Red Cedar and Fairbury, the Mars Racing team will jump back into action with five big events from July 9-13! The World of Outlaws Late Model Series will kick-off their "Wild West Tour" tonight, July 9 at the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minnesota. The 29th Annual Featherlite Trailers 'Gopher 50' will take place tonight at Deer Creek and a $10,000 top prize is up for grabs. This year's version of the 'Gopher 50' will be taped for broadcast on the SPEED Channel at 4:00 p.m. EST on August 16.
From Deer Creek, the WOOLMS "Wild West Tour" will take the #28 team to the North Central (MN) Speedway (July 10), the River Cities (ND) Speedway (July 11), the Estevan (Canada) Motor Speedway (July 12), and the Williston Basin (ND) Speedway (July 13).
