Ben Shelton COLUMBUS, Miss. (July 8) - This Saturday, July 12th Columbus Speedway in Columbus, Mississippi will roar back to life as the stars and cars of the Lucas Oil Late Model Series invade "The Baddest Bullring in the South".
With summer in high gear, things will really be heating up this Saturday as many of the nation's top Super Late Model pilots roll into town for the $10,000 to win/$700 to start 10th Annual James Nickoles Memorial Presented By Premier Ford Lincoln Mercury and The Columbus Convention and Visitors Bureau at the 1/3 mile, red clay oval. In addition to many of the nation's top drivers being on hand, the national spotlight will be on Columbus Speedway as the SPEED Channel returns for the third straight year to tape the event for a future airing.
Headlining this weekend's entries are National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame drivers, Scott Bloomquist from Mooresburg, Tennessee, Billy Moyer from Batesville, Arkansas, and Freddy Smith from Seymour, Tennessee. The Lucas Oil Late Model Series will bring its own cast of stars to town including two-time defending Lucas Oil Champion and current point's leader, Earl Pearson Jr. from Jacksonville, Florida. Dan Schlieper (Wisconsin), Scott James (Indiana), Justin Ratliff (Kentucky), Michael England (Kentucky), Bart Hartman (Ohio), Terry Casey (Wisconsin), Steve Casebolt (Indiana), Billy Drake (Illinois), Chris Wall (Louisiana), David Breazeale (Mississippi), Bub McCool (Mississippi), Jimmy Owens (Tennessee), Ronny Lee Hollingsworth (Alabama) and many more of the top national, regional, and local drivers are possibly expected to be on hand for the event.
A full compliment of local divisions will be in action including a minimum purse of $600 to win Open Wheel Modifieds, $500 to win NeSmith Crate Late Models, $500 to win Late Model Stocks, and $350 to win Street Stocks.
Grandstand admission is $25 for adults with active military, senior citizens, and students (11-18 years of age) $20, and children 10 and under free.
Pit admission is $35 for adults, $20 for children (7-10 years of age), and 6 years of age and under free.
