Roby Helm CARTERSVILLE, Ga. (July 7) - Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS, Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS, Mark Clifton of Brewton, AL, and Davin Bates of Roseland, LA took wins during Week 15 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season. Week 15 also saw the 400th different driver compete in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series during 2008.
Keeton, the defending and two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion, picked up his sixth win of the season on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS. Keeton now holds a 14-point lead over Lee, who posted his fifth win of the season on Saturday night at A1 Raceway in Slidell, LA.
The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region has Keeton leading with 663 points in 15 starts, and Lee has 649 points in 16 starts. Josh Huss of Flomaton, AL is third with 553 points in 14 starts, and Chris Griffin of Flomaton, AL is fourth with 496 points in 13 starts. Herman Reynolds of Laurel, MS is fifth in the West Region standings with 474 point in 13 starts.
Tracy Sutton of Brewton, AL is sixth in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region standings with 436 points in 11 starts, and Ben McCreary of Baldwyn, MS is seventh with 428 points in nine starts.
Clifton turned in his Region-leading eighth win of the season on Friday night at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL. That moved him into a tie for the eighth spot in the West Region standings with Micha McCall of Flomaton, AL. Each driver has 413 points, as Clifton has nine starts, and McCall has 12 starts.
Talbert Goldman of Meridian, MS rounds out the top ten of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings with 412 points in 10 starts. When the average weekly point total is calculated for the top ten, Keeton is averaging 44.2 points per race. The highest average belongs to McCreary, who is averaging 47.6 points per race, then Clifton at 45.9 points per race.
Bates picked up his second win of the season on Saturday night at Pike County Speedway in McComb, MS.
The only race scheduled in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region was rained out on Saturday night at Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, IN. A few drivers did, however, cash in on receiving 10 Bonus Points for their participation in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring event on July 3-4 at Fort Payne Motor Speedway in Fort Payne, AL.
Richie Stephens of Phenix City, AL leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region standings with 718 points based on his best 16 finishes in 20 starts. Blake Stewart of Centre, AL is second with 696 points in 16 starts, followed by Adam Martin of Talladega, AL with 650 points in 14 starts, and Larry Harrod of Plains, GA with 634 points in 16 starts.
Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL is fifth in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region standings with 627 points in 15 starts, and Dillon Crim of Eastaboga, AL is sixth with 582 points based on his best 16 finishes in 17 starts. Marc Gooden of Lafayette, AL is seventh with 577 points based on his best 16 finishes in 18 starts.
Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL is eighth in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region standings with 571 points based on his best 16 finishes in 20 starts, and Anthony Meadows of Lanett, AL is ninth with 565 points in 14 starts. Brian Ponder of Talladega, AL rounds out the top 10 in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region standings with 558 points in 13 starts.
Stephens has an average weekly point total of 44.9, but the highest weekly average point total in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region top 10 belongs to Martin, who has 46.4 average points per race.
