LEBANON, Ore. (June 28) - Mike Miller drove 40 error-free laps from pole position Saturday night to win the $2,008 grand prize in the Outlaw Late Models Saturday night at Willamette Speedway.

The format for the big-money night was changed. The top 12 racers in the points were locked into the main event with the next six for the main event being determined by qualifying from the usual qualifying determining the main event's starting positions. The heat race finishes determined the main event starts with the two heat races for the top 12 in points determining the first six rows for the main event with the next six starting in rows seven through nine by heat race finish.

Miller beat out Rob Mayea to win the fast heat race to earn the pole and Trevor Glaser beat out the Boyd brothers, Bob and Randy, to earn the outside pole. John Duty beat out fast timer Rick Wyatt to win the third A-Main event and started on the inside of the 14th row.

The action started quickly in the main event, as Mayea got high in turn three and spun. Bob Boyd hit the wall trying to avoid Mayea and Randy Boyd hit his brother, ending the nights of both of the brothers, as well as Wade Mock. Mayea had a flat tire and broken tie rod and had to duck into the pits to make repairs. Mayea made it back out in time for the restart, but had to go to the back of the pack.

On the restart, polesitting Miller got a good jump and cleared Glaser for the lead on the first lap. For the next 40 laps, Glaser, Jeremy Shank and Tory Swayngim tried to make moves to get by each other and miller, but Miller rode the low side around the 1/3-mile clay oval for all 40 revolutions and never made a mistake to take the top prize.

Glaser finished second with Shank equaling his best finishing position of the season in third, Swayngim in fourth and Brett McCutcheon continued his fine streak with a fifth-place finish. Darren Coffell, Mark Carrell, Russ Sell, John Duty and Ryan Gerig rounded out the top 10.

In the Outlaw B-Main, Carrell started on the pole along side sister, Lisa Stroup, then proceeded to lead all 30 laps to win with Todd Shandy in second. Cody Sell finished third with Mike Bennett in fourth and Stroup in fifth.

Mike Brooks won the Outlaw C-Main from the pole, well in front of third-place Glen Hackney and third-place Gary Smith.

Mayea made a good day for his family.

The driver from Bend won the 25-lap modified A-Main event and his father, Gene, won the 50/50 drawing for a prize of $857.

Mayea passed leading Doug Davenport on the eighth lap and led the rest of the way. B-Main winning Kevin Keeney had passed Davenport and was hounding Mayea for the lead halfway through the main, but on lap 18 threw a driveshaft and came to a halt in turn four.

Davenport finished second with Chris Murphy in third, Sam Potter in fourth and Dale Holland rounding out the top five.

In the Super Sports, Carrell dominated the race in a car rebodied so recently that the No. 1 was put on in red Duct Tape.

The polesitting Carrell gave up the lead for the first three laps before retaking the top spot and going on to the win. Dan Kingsberry came back to finish second with Russ Sell in third, with Justin Evans in fourth and Ron Burchard in fifth.

Shawn Benton won the Super Sport B-Main event after the leaders took each other out on the final lap.

Brad Hopkins passed Ron Ossenkopp for the lead on the ninth lap and held off a determined charge from David Cronk to win the Sportsman A-Main. Chad Slover won the B-Main and Bill Slover won the C-Main.

Fast timer Bob Kingsberry held off Dan Kingsberry to win his third Classic Sportsman A-Main of the season.

Willamette Speedway returns to action Saturday July 5 when it hosts the Operation Homefront night.
