Eric Westendorf SARVER, Penn. (June 25) - Firecracker 100 week is finally upon us! After an entire year of waiting for Round Two and after months of promoting and hyping the event, in a matter of days the finest late model drivers in the United States will be slingin' mud around the 4/10 mile Sarver Speedplant known as "The Action Track".
The 2nd Annual Firecracker 100 presented by GottaRace.com is not only the biggest Late Model Race in the Northeast, it is also the Finale of the World of Outlaws Late Model Series "Great Northern Tour" through Pennsylvania, New York and across the border into Canada. So far, the "Great Northern Tour" has seen four different winners at four different tracks; Clint Smith won at Port Royal (PA), Tim McCreadie won at Ohsweken (Ontario, CAN), Rick Eckert won at Autodrome Drummond (Quebec, CAN), and Josh Richards won the most recent race this past weekend at Cornwall Motor Speedway (Ontario, CAN). Tonight the Outlaws roll in to Canandaigua Speedway in Upstate New York, then to Big Diamond Raceway in Central PA Wednesday Night, before heading to Lernerville Speedway for the Finale of the Great Northern Tour Friday & Saturday at the 2nd Annual Firecracker 100 presented by GottaRace.com
Over the next few days, Lernerville Speedway in the sleepy little township of Sarver, PA will become the Mecca of Late Model Racing. Preparations have been under way for weeks, months, basically since July 1 of last year. But now the race itself is finally upon us. The final touches are being put into place this week and by Wednesday evening, the first campers and RVs will be rolling down PA State Route 356 with GPS systems locked onto the Lernerville Speedway.
As the campers and RVs move into place Wednesday evening, regional Internet radio show "Clamped Up!", hosted by Dennis Michelson and CJ Swank, will be broadcasting 90 minutes of Firecracker 100 information and interviews featuring Jared Miley, MACS PR Director Jason Shank, Lernerville PR Director Eric Westendorf, World of Outlaws Late Model Series PR Director Kevin Kovac and a handful of World of Outlaws Late Model Drivers. To hear the 90 minute internet broadcast of "Clamped Up!" log on to ClampedUp.com on the RaceTalkRadio.com website.
Then Friday, all attention turns to the Action Track as time trials and heat race action will set the stage for Saturday's $40,000-to-win 2nd Annual Firecracker 100 presented by GottaRace.com and the Uncle Sam 30.
Between the heat races Friday Night and the Firecracker 100 on Saturday Night is a variety of activities in which the fans can interact with the best Late Model Drivers in the country!
Friday Night's post-race schedule includes another ground-shaking fireworks display by the madmen at Premier Pyrotechnics. These guys rocked the Lernerville Speedway last Friday Night on #1 Cochran Automotive Fan Appreciation Night with what everyone is calling the best fireworks display they've ever seen! The guys at Premier Pyrotechnics are pushing the envelope in fireworks presentation and you'll see things you've never seen before when they light up the sky!
After the Fireworks, head out to the parking lot behind the main grandstands and vending area to see another group of earth-movers, NoMAD. NoMAD, a local Country/Rock band, is coming off the biggest opportunity of their blossoming career two weeks ago when they opened the Kenny Chesney Pirates & Poets Tour Show at Heinz Field, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers. NoMAD was chosen over hundreds of local acts in a contest conducted by Y108 and Kenny Chesney to give an unsigned local act the chance to take the big stage, and ultimately perhaps sign a record deal in Nashville. But this Friday Night they'll be rocking the stage at the Firecracker 100 along with National Recording Artist Vanessa Campagna.
The off-track activities and entertainment continue Saturday with the weenie roast at noon. During that time 2 panels of judges will conduct a Best Burger and Best Banner contest, the winners of which will throw horseshoes with Shane Clanton and Lynn Geisler in the Driver/Fan Horseshoe Tournament. Sarah Wilson will perform at 2:00 as the horseshoe tournament winds down. Then at 3:30 the line forms near the pit gates for the Driver Autograph session which will run from 4:00-5:00. Only those fans with Two-Day wristbands will be permitted to join the line at 3:30. Unbanded fans can join the back of the line at 4:00.
Following the Driver Autographs the action turns back to the track with hot laps, B-Main, Uncle Sam 30, A-Main Driver Introductions and the 2nd Annual Firecracker 100 presented by GottaRace.com. SPEED camera crews will be on hand all weekend to record all the on-track action as well as some of the behind-the-scenes action and off-track entertainment. Banners from the Best Banner contest will be shown on SPEED, so bring your banners, support your favorite driver and you may not only get to pitch horseshoes with Reigning Firecracker Horseshoe Champion Lynn Geisler, but you may also get on National TV!!
