(June 24) - Mother Nature and rain outs have dominated the headlines during the first thirteen weeks of the 2008 season at Bill Sawyer's Virginia Motor Speedway, with six of the weeks being canceled due to the weather. Heading into week fourteen competitors and fans alike are anxious to get back to some racing and the chase for the Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Championships.
This Saturday June 28th the Speedway returns back to action to host Pro-Build of Tappahannock, VA Night at the Races. See the Victory Lap Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, New Generation Racing Sprint Car and Limited Stock divisions. Always exciting, action packed real value and real excitement for the entire family. Come experience the raw, pure excitement that is dirt racing!
Competitor gates for Saturday, June 28th will open at 3pm with spectator gates opening at 4pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm with hot laps. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday June 28th: Victory Lap Late Models (35 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (25 Laps); New Generation Racing Sprint Cars (25 Laps); and the VMS Limited Stocks (20 Laps). All divisions will run Hot Lap Time Trials and Features.
Adult admission is just $10, Senior and Military $8, Students 13 -17 yrs old $7, Children 7 - 12 yrs old $4 and Children 6 and under free. The Speedway offers a Family Pack for two adults and two children 12 and under for only $20. Also check our website for discount coupons.
GET THE POINT: Heading into Saturday night's racing action Stevie Long of Mechanicsville, MD (384 pts) leads the Victory Lap Late Model points chase by two points over Walker Arthur of Forest, VA (382 pts). Donnie Marshall Jr. (365 pts), Austin Hubbard of Laurel, DE (357 pts) and leading rookie candidate Ben Bowie of Brandywine, MD (354 pts) round out the top five.
In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman division Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA (229 pts) is your points leader with J.R. Guy of Mechanicsville, MD (206 pts), Roger Jamerson of Mechanicville, VA (203 pts), Doug Johnson of Hayes, VA (200 pts) and Kenny Moreland of Waldorf, MD round out the top five.
In the Budweiser Modified division Paige Harrison of Jetersville, VA (302 pts) leads the division race by ten points over Brandon Galloway of Gloucester, VA (292 pts). Leading rookie contender Matt Marshall of Stuarts Draft, VA (286 pts), Kelly Samuels of Richmond, VA (282 pts) and Mark Schools of Midlothian, VA (279 pts) round out the top five.
In the New Generation Racing Sprint Car division Daren Bolac of Moyock, NC (311 pts) has dominated the division taking wins in all three of the contested events. Mary Anne Williams of Chester, VA (290 pts), defending champion Craig Folmer of Phillipsburg, PA (286 pts), rookies Troy Severin of Ashland, VA (266 pts) and Brent Bordeaux of Fredericksburg, VA (266 pts) round out the top five.
In the Limited Stock Car division rookie Wayne Suite of Mechanicsville, MD (297 pts) has a nine point lead over defending champion Bob Terry of Stafford, VA (286 pts). Wesley Givens of New Kent, VA (282 pts), rookie Brett Adkins of Gloucester, VA (276 pts) and Andrew Miller of Bena, VA round out the top five.
FIREWORKS: Bill Sawyer's Virginia Motor Speedway will celebrate our country's birth on Friday July 4th with racing and a huge fireworks display for the entire family. Treat the whole family to a night of racing.
Bill Sawyer's Virginia Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track affiliate, is a ½ mile dirt oval track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads area.
