RICE LAKE, Wisc. (June 21) - Rookie Midwest Modified driver Josh Smith topped a thrilling three wide battle to win his first ever feature race in the division and highlight the racing program Saturday night at the Rice Lake Speedway. Veteran driver Paul Erikson won the first feature race of his long career here Saturday while Jay Kesan, Jake Redetzke and Doug Wojcik all won their first feature wins of the year here. Only Kevin Adams in the Modifieds became a repeat winner on a night was passing was the norm and half the feature winners came from at least the fourth row in the starting lineups.

Jake Redetzke, in a bit of a racing slump of late, shock himself free from his problems and made a sterling drive in the Late Model feature, coming from the ninth starting spot to take the win. Tom Nesbitt took the early lead in a race that was slowed early after a wild first lap scramble left Paul Brust with a broken front end and the point leader was the first car out of the race.

Nesbitt continued to lead on the restart with Scott Gilberts starting to put the heat on him as Steve Isenberg, Shawn Mahder and the Redetzke brothers, Jake and Jesse, battled behind them. Gilberts got under Nesbitt for the lead but another yellow for a spin slowed the action once again.

This time Jake Redetzke found himself on the outside for the restart and on the drop of the green, he blasted off on the cushion and drove past Nesbitt to take over the lead. Once in front, he began to pull away from the field as Nesbitt settled into second ahead of the pressuring Gilberts and Isenberg. The race ran nonstop the rest of the way with Redetzke cruising home for his first win of 2008. Nesbitt recorded a solid second place finish ahead of Gilberts and Isenberg while Jesse Redetzke edged out Mahder after they ran a number of laps side by side at the end of the event.
