Bob Appleget CHATSWORTH, Ga. (June 20) - Derek Ellis, who calls North Georgia Speedway home, scored his second career Late Model feature win on the high banked third mile clay oval Friday night.
On the second attempt to start the Late Model feature Robert Gant would take the lead with Ellis taking the second spot, point leader Gary McPherson third and Jake Knowles fourth. Three laps into the event McPherson would retire and Knowles would move into the third spot behind Gant and Ellis. Ellis would stalk Gant for three more laps before taking the lead on the seventh circuit.
With Ellis in the lead Gant and Knowles would battle for second with Roger Best and Don Jenkins holding down the fourth and fifth spots. Ellis would hold off Gant to the checkered flag with Knowles crossing the stripe in third, Best fourth and Jenkins fifth.
Billy Reaves. Buster Goss, Dwayne Jackson, Scott Hall and Cody Barnett would round out the top 10.
Rick Hixson continued his hot hand with yet another Limited/Crate Late Model feature win. Hixson would take the lead at the drop of the green and lead all 20 laps to take the win. While Hixson was having things his own way Devin Dilbeck and Phillip Anderson were having a spirited battle for the second spot. Dilbeck would take the spot on lap seven and spend the rest of the feature trying to keep it from Anderson while Trig Parris waited in the wings. Brian Jackson would come from mid pack to finish fifth.
Just past the halfway point in the Hobby feature Tim Ford powered past Greg Ledford to take the lead. Ford would hold off Ledford for the remaining laps to take the win. Jason Mabry was third, Donnie Farmer fourth and Charles Blackwell fifth
Taking the lead from point leader Grady Stokes on lap seven of the 15-lap Pony feature Greg Callahan would then hold off Michael Courtney to take the win. Following Callahan and Courtney across the line were Stokes, Billy Callahan and Ralph Langston.
John Morrison took the lead on the fifth lap of the Econo Bomber feature and never looked back as he went on the take the win. Current point leader Tom Peters was second, Timmy Millwood third, Zach Pilcher fourth and David Beam fifth.
This Friday night B.J Parker Southern Thunder Series will take center stage at North Georgia Speedway. The Late Model event will pay $2,500 to win. Also on the card will be all of North Georgia's regular divisions, Limited/Crate Late Models, Hobby, Pony and Econo Bombers.
