Chuck Griffith LAKEVILLE, Ohio (June 20) - Multi time track champion,Mike Lonas drove his Smittley Towing,Fultz Fabricating sponsored entry to the victory circle in the American Payroll Advance Lakeville Late Model action on Friday night. It was not as easy as it sounds as he and J.R.Gentry battled the entire event along with Eric Eicholtz as those three raced three wide at times.Early in the contest,Wes Morrison was trying to make it four wide as points leader Clint Coffman was racing from his eighth starting spot to join the up front action and Jason Flory coming from fourth place.Gentry looked as he had complete control of the event until lap twenty when Lonas tried several times to make the pass on the leader.On lap twenty two of the twenty five lap event
Lonas went to the bottom in turn two and the two leaders raced side by side into turn three where Lonas came out on top and raced the final two circuits as the leader and recorded his second win of the year followed by Gentry,Eicholtz,Jason Flory and Coffman.
Tim Hunter in his Berlin Bakery sponsored ride blasted to his third win of the year in the Pepsi Winged Sprint feature from starting on the outside of the front row.Points leader Nick Mulheim was lined up on the pole as the green was shown.Hunter wasted no time in going to the point as drove away from the field.By lap ten,Hunter was into lap traffic and was handling it very well.Mulheim began his charge to shorten the distance between he and the leader as Brian Smith,Duffy Smith and Paul Weaver was mounting thier charge to the front.On lap eleven,Troy Kingan got upside down and the red flag was out on the speedway.As the field reassembled,Hunter stayed at the point as behind him the shuffle had begun with the two Smiths,Weaver and Mulheim.Brian Smith moved into second place on lap fourteen as he had a real time passing Mulheim.At the checkered flag,it was Hunter,Brian Smith,Mulheim,Duffy Smith and Weaver.
Twenty two Pure Stocks came to the starting line for the Hamlin Racing Engines A Main as they were testing the water for the big Pure Stock/Mini Stock Grand Special scheduled for Friday June 27th.Bob Daugherty gathered in his first win in his second visit of the year from starting on the pole.Frank Oriti mounted his charge to the front from starting back in the eighth place.Dave Haven Sr.stayed in the mix the entire event from fourth.Donna Canode was the one to watch as she battled from starting back in the thirteenth spot.Daugherty was able to stave off all challenges and got the win,followed by Oriti,Haven Sr.,Canode and points leader Sean Cain finishing fifth from starting eleventh.
Jordan James had recorded several top five finishes this year in the Hague Crystal Clear Water Mini Stock action and it was evident that he was going to get his share of wins and he accomplished his first one in the feature from his fourth starting spot.He was chased hard by Josh Hershberger,along with pressure from points leader Sean Rush from starting back in the eleventh spot.When the black and white flag was displayed it was James with the win,followed by Hershberger,S.Rush,Mark Myers from fifth and Steve Quicksall racing from ninth to finish fifth.
Doug Hensel drove to his fifth win of the year in the Rod Eddleblutes Garage sponsored Mini Stock Novice class.He started fourth and went to the point early in the feature as Danny Rose mounted a chase but fell short in tracking the leader down.The top five finishers were Hensel,Rose,Tim Rush,Brad Lawhorn and Steve Foley.
Charlie Dawson stayed on top of the points battle in the Tom's Salvage Cruiser division as he got his third feature win of the year from his fourth starting spot.Following him to the finish was Bob Fry,Ken Yarosh,Gary Hensel Sr,and Charles Short.
Dale Mong took the win in the Mountain Dew Mini Truck feature with Scott Gray second,Travis Leyda third,Kyle Lashley fourth.
