Roby Helm CARTERSVILLE, Ga. (June 16) - Logan Yates of Delta, AL, Josh Huss of Flomaton, AL, and Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS posted NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series victories over the weekend, but Mother Nature was the big winner in Week 12, as She rained out seven events.
Yates, the defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region Champion, picked up his third win of the season by topping a 32-car field on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.
East Region point leader Adam Martin of Talladega, AL finished third on Saturday night at TST to move up to the second spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region points. Richie Stephens of Phenix City, AL still leads the East Region with 628 points in 15 starts, while Martin has 528 points in just 11 starts.
Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region with 516 points in 15 starts, with Blake Stewart of Centre, AL in fourth with 515 points in 12 starts, and Brian Ponder of Talladega, AL is fifth with 512 points in 12 starts. Larry Harrod of Plains, GA is sixth with 486 points in 12 starts, and Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL is seventh with 480 points in 11 starts.
Dillon Crim of Eastaboga, AL holds down the eighth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region standings with 474 points in 13 starts, with Marc Gooden of Lafayette, AL in ninth with 460 points in 13 starts, and Anthony Meadows of Lanett, AL rounds out the East Region Top Ten with 447 points in 11 starts.
Huss grabbed his second NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region win of the season on Saturday night at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL. Mark Clifton of Brewton, AL did not compete on Saturday night, so his perfect season of seven wins without being defeated remains in tact. Lee posted his second win of the season on Saturday night at A1 Raceway in Slidell, LA.
The defending and two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS still leads the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region with 539 points in 12 starts to hold a 50-point lead over Herman Reynolds of Laurel, MS, who has 489 points in 13 starts.
Lee is still third in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region standings with 444 points in 11 starts, with Huss in the fourth spot with 437 points in 11 starts, and his teammate Chris Griffin of Flomaton, AL is fifth with 389 points in 10 starts.
Tootie Arnold of Meadville, MS moved back into the top ten in the West Region with a second-place finish on Saturday night at A1 Raceway, and settled into the sixth spot this week with 348 points in nine starts. Heath Gibson of Brewton, AL is seventh with 342 points in nine starts, and Micha McCall of Flomaton, AL is eighth with 341 points in ten starts.
Talbert Goldman of Meridian, MS is ninth in the West Region with 336 points in eight starts, and Clifton rounds out the top ten in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings with 326 points in seven starts, all wins.
Now for the Mother Nature scorecard. In the East Region on Friday night, Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, IN, Fort Payne Motor Speedway in Fort Payne, AL, and Penton Raceway in Penton, AL were all rained out. East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL had its East Region event rained out on Saturday night.
In the West Region, Southern Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS was rained out on Friday night, while Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS, and Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS were rained out on Saturday night.
