MONTGOMERY FLAT TIRE GIVES ADKINS LATE MODEL FEATURE WIN AT K-C RACEWAY

K-C Raceway
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio. (June 14) - It wasn't exactly Johnny Cash's "Jackson", but two Jackson, Ohio drivers--Jason Montgomery and Greg Oliver--two-stepped to a distant one-two over Mike Wilson, who loomed on the horizon of the late model main. Montgomery went high and Oliver dove low within inches of each other for much of the first eleven laps. No matter what Racin' Jason did, he could not shake the stubborn Seymour Logging entry of Oliver.

On lap eleven Jason Artis was tapped by another car and collected fifth place Bobby Kitchen in a grinding back-chute crash that sent Kitchen spinning backwards into the infield. The hard broadside hit sent both cars disabled to the pits. As the track was being cleared, Montgomery found Lady Luck riding alongside as his co-pilot. Oliver went pitside with a flat tire and was out of the race, moving Wilson into the number two slot with Ben Adkins and Delmas Conley in tow.

Montgomery again vaulted into a comfortable lead over Wilson, who was eight lengths back in second. Rick Combs, an earlier winner at K-C, left the race with mechanical problems after taking over fourth from Conley. Ben Adkins remained in the points' chase with another solid run as did Chillicothe's own Jeff Houser.

As attrition took its toll on the line-up, Montgomery persevered. Wilson looped it on the 23rd circuit, putting Adkins right on the leader as Montgomery was about to take the white flag. Lady Luck deserted her friend as Montgomery also became a flat tire victim. Now with Adkins on the point, Jeff Houser hoped to prove the spoiler.

Adkins' Masterbuilt/Estes mount came home first over Houser, Wilson, Dean Boyd in his best K-C run and Mike Myers in fifth. "K-C Raceway is one of my favorite tracks. It's always fun to race here and it's especially fun to win," said Adkins. "We like it here and we are going to give it a shot at the points this year."

Mike Meyers was the hard-charger in a 14th to 5th place run.

K-C has a regular show June 21 and June 28 in all four divisions.
