Delph Communications HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (June 12) - Huntersville, North Carolina native G.R. Smith made his debut in the D&H Motorsports #54 Rocket / Clements entry on Saturday evening, June 7 at the 311 Speedway in Madison, North Carolina. G.R. was second quickest in qualifying for the Twin 25s, which earned him the outside front row starting spot for the first $2,500 to win A-Main. He took control at the drop of the green flag and led all 25 laps of the first race en route to an impressive victory over Noel Tucker, Daniel Baggerly, Steve Blackburn, and Bruce Hall.
After the top four were inverted for the second Twin 25, G.R. started from the outside of the second row. The driver known as the "Wild Child" was nearly able to pull off the sweep, but his last lap attempt of passing race leader Steve Blackburn came up just short and he was forced to settle for a strong runner-up effort. G.R. also wheeled a #54 machine in a weekly Crate Late Model show at 311 on Saturday. Unfortunately, he hit the wall early in the A-Main and suffered a flat right front tire, which took him out of action and relegated him to a tenth place performance. "Wow, the D&H Motorsports team supplied me with an awesome car last Saturday at 311 and it had tons of drive," exclaimed Smith this week via telephone. "The Super Late Model was great in both races and I was almost able to make a last lap pass on (Steve) Blackburn in the second feature, but just fell a little short. I was extremely happy with how everything went and I am looking forward to the rest of the season with these guys!"
G.R. and the D&H Motorsports team have two Dirt Late Model events on their upcoming weekend schedule! They will travel to the Dublin Motor Speedway in Dublin, North Carolina on Friday night, June 13 for a $1,500 to win regular weekly show. A similar race will then be held on Saturday evening, June 14 at the Hammerdown Speedway in Red Springs, North Carolina. If a driver can win both Dublin and Hammerdown this weekend, they will receive an extra $1,000 bonus.
