PADUCAH, Ky. (June 10) - High bankin' dirt trackin' action returns to PIR this Friday, June 13. And, despite superstitions about Friday the 13th, it will be a "lucky" night for Dads and kids.
On the track, it will be heats and features for the UMP Late Models, Crate (Pro) Late Models, Modifieds, Street Stocks, and 4-cylinder Warriors. These five UMP divisions will be joined by the Super Cell Mini Sprints.
In the Crate Late Model division, Tait Davenport of Paducah will be looking for an unprecedented seventh win in a row. Clifty's Randle Sweeney (Modified), Paducah's Pancho Elder (Street Stock), and Calvert City's Jeffrey Bailey (Warrior) each will be looking for their sixth win of the season. In the Late Model division, there are two two-time winners: Terry English of Benton and John Tindal of Mayfield. So far in 2008, PIR has averaged well over 100 racecars per event.
Since Fathers Day is this Sunday, Friday will be Dad's Night at PIR. To celebrate, Paducah's Home Depot will be giving away dad-oriented prizes during the program. Lucky dads will win great prizes including a Rigid Heavy Duty reciprocating saw, a Black and Decker drill, a Black and Decker can cooler/warmer, a 100 piece Workforce screwdriver set, a Worktunes radio hearing protector, and a Bayou classic outdoor cooking system.
Plus, the kids will be entertained by Penny the Clown. They'll love the face painting and balloons. This community spirited, family oriented appearance of Penny the Clown is sponsored by Wade Hayden Construction of Paducah.
NASCAR Stars Dale Earnhardt, Jr, Ken Schrader, and Promoter Bob Sargent purchased Paducah International Raceway in November of 2005. Two-time NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart joined the trio of co-owners as a partner in September of 2006. In 2008 the 3/8th mile high-banked oval will host several high profile events including three NASCAR Nights of Stars, the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars, the USA World 50, and the Tri-Track Challenge.
