Jim Pluhar SANTA MARIA, Calif. (June 4) - Saturday night's "Law Enforcement Night" at Santa Maria Speedway will feature Late Model Stocks, Fox 11 "First at Ten" East vs. West Shootout Super Streets, Factory Stocks and Mini Stocks.
The Steve Drake juggernaut rolls on in the Late Model Stock division. The San Luis driver picked up his second championship feature win of the season last Saturday night, and now leads second place Billy Griffin, of Buena Park, 152 to 126. Bakersfield's John Lowrey is one point behind Griffin and Devin Crockett, of Arroyo Grande, is one point behind Lowrey. Fifth place Dana Beattie, of Lompoc, trails the leader by 37.
Darrel Hood continues to lead three other Bakersfield drivers in the East vs. West Shootout. Robby Sawyer is 13 points out of the lead, Nick Sylvester is down 62 markers and Jeremiah Van Scoy and Santa Maria's Tim Randolph are tied for fourth, 75 points in arrears.
Santa Maria's Kirk Morgan scored his second main event victory of the season last week to extend his point lead over Kevin Linson, of Arroyo Grande, to 38 points in the Factory Stock division. Michael Frazier, of Santa Maria, is one point further behind in third. Two more Santa Maria drivers, Glen Sparks (-45) and Tim Bennett (-52) complete the top-five.
In the Mini Stock class, three drivers are covered by a spread of 19 points. Nipomo's Justin Marsh is 11 points up on Arroyo Grande's Justin Crockett and 19 clicks ahead of Nipomo's Jeremy Heroux. Next come Santa Barbara's Ben Caswell (-54) and Atascadero's Aaron Cervantes (-59).
Saturday night's spectator gates will open at 3:00 p.m., with qualifying at 5:15 p.m. and racing at 6:00 p.m. Ticket prices will be: $18.00 for adults, $14.00 for seniors (65+), $5.00 for children 6 to 12, 5 and under free. SMS does not accept credit cards.
