COLUMBUS, Miss. (June 3) - Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, Mississippi will host the 5th Annual Governors Cup presented by Coca Cola this Saturday, June 7th, 2008.

The 5th Annual Governor's Cup will be headlined by a $5,000 to win and $300 to start, 60 lap Super Late Model event. Also, in action will be the Open Wheel Modifieds, Late Model Stocks, NeSmith Weekly Crate Late Model Series, and Street Stocks. The total purse for this Saturday's event approaches $18,000.

This will be the fourth event of the season at Magnolia Motor Speedway, and the action has been tremendous with 3 different winners in the Super Late Model Division thus far into 2008. Rodney Wing, who was the May 25th winner, will join Dane Dacus and Neil Baggett in pursuit of their second win of the year, which will automatically qualify them for the Cotton Pickin' 100 feature event. The Cotton Pickin' 100 is the spectacular, three day event, which is held October 16th-18th, and features a $15,000 to win event for Super Late Models.

The racing action will also include Open Wheel Modifieds, Late Model Stocks, the NeSmith Chevrolet Crate Series, and Street Stocks.

Shay Knight of Columbus won for the second time this season in the Open Wheel Modifieds, and T.K. King of Columbus won for the second time this season in the Late Model Stock division on May 25th. Both drivers have now qualified for the Cotton Pickin' 100 race in October. Both are slated to compete again this weekend to see if their winning streaks will continue.

The Governor's Cup tradition of having high ranking officials in our local and state government offices on hand to witness the action first hand will continue as commitments have been confirmed from many offices, as well as from Columbus Air Force Base.

The weekend's action will kick off Friday, June 6th with an Open Practice for all Divisions. On Saturday, June 7th a complete racing program will be held for all five divisions in action.

Pit Gates will open at 4 PM on Friday, and 1 PM on Saturday.
