SANTA MARIA, Calif. (May 31) - Santa Maria Speedway played host to Late Model Stocks, D&S Automotive IMCA Modifieds, Factory Stocks and Mini Stocks Saturday night.

Late Model Stock point leader Steve Drake, of San Luis Obispo, stalked Arroyo Grande's Devin Crockett for the first 18 of the 30-lap main event before making the pass and going on to his second victory of the year. Crockett held off Buena Park's Billy Griffin for second and Bakersfield's John Lowrey and Dave Childress followed Griffin to the checkers to fill in the top-five. Drake completed his sweep of the night with fast time of 14.768 second and an 8-lap heat race win. Griffin captured the other heat.

Clay Daly, of Watsonville, led over half of the 25-lap IMCA Modified feature event to take his second victory of the season. Daly came home ahead of Randy Brown, of Chowchilla, and Chad Weber of Arroyo Grande. San Jose's Tommy Laliberte and Santa Maria's Ian Hunter placed fourth and fifth. Laliberte, Junior Dawson, of Santa Cruz, and Doug Thornton, of Santa Maria, were first in 8-lap heat race action.

Ray Pezzi, of Terra Bella, held off point leader Kirk Morgan, of Santa Maria, for three quarters of the 20-lap Factory Stock main event as he tried desperately to get his first feature win on the 1/3-mile oval. The two drivers started on the front row and ran one-two for the duration with Pezzi in the lead most of the way. Morgan caught Pezzi in traffic to make the winning pass. Santa Maria's Michael Frazier and Tim Bennett and Arroyo Grande's Kevin Linson made up the rest of the top-five. Morgan and Pezzi won the two 8-lap heat races.

2005 Mini Stock champion Darrin Davis returned to the Speedway for the first time since his championship season. Taking up where he left off, Davis won the feature event, leading 18 of the 20 laps. Justin Crockett, of Arroyo Grande, was runner-up, point leader Justin Marsh, of Nipomo, and Santa Maria's Rob Gilbertson and Frank Nyback made up the top-five. Marsh, Nipomo's Jeremy Heroux and Matt Sweeney, of Van Nuys, came out on top in 8-lap heat races.

Next Saturday night Late Model Stocks, Fox 11 "First at Ten" East vs. West Super Streets, Factory Stocks and Mini Stocks will be in action for "Law Enforcement Night". Spectator gates will open at 3:00 p.m., with qualifying at 5:15 p.m. and racing at 6:00 p.m. Admission prices will be $18.00 for adults, $14.00 for seniors (65+), $5.00 for children six to twelve, five and under free.
