Delph Communications BATESVILLE, Ark. (May 29) - Wendell Wallace and his #88 team invaded the venerable West Plains Motor Speedway in West Plains, Missouri on May 23-24 for the 16th Annual 'Show-Me 100.' Wendell was looking for his fourth 'Show-Me 100' title last weekend, as he previously took the checkers in 2002, 2006, and 2007. The unsanctioned event at the 3/8-mile, red-clay oval paid $42,000 to the winner and $4,200 just to start the A-Main.
The Batesville, Arkansas native unloaded a brand new GRT chassis over the weekend and posted the fourth fastest lap of the nearly 80 entrants during qualifying on Friday night, May 23. Following a fourth place effort in his heat race, Wendell transferred his #88 into the main event via a hard-fought second place finish in his B-Main on Saturday, May 24. After rolling off from the inside of the twelfth row for the 100-lap 'Show-Me 100,' Wendell pitted several times throughout the race, looking to make his car better and better. At the end of the mega-event, the "Batesville Bullet" found himself in the seventh position behind winner Scott Bloomquist, Jimmy Mars, Terry Phillips, Earl Pearson, Jr., Shannon Babb, and Brian Birkhofer. "I would have loved to have won my fourth Show-Me title, but it just wasn't meant to be this year," stated Wallace this week. "Everything with the tire game was different this year and a lot of guys had success gambling on some softer tire combinations. So, we were chasing tires all weekend and chasing some stuff on the new car as well. There at the end of the race after we pitted a few times, the car got rolling a little better and we were able to salvage a seventh place finish."
The Wendell Wallace Autosports team is scheduled to take the upcoming weekend, May 30-31, off from Dirt Late Model competition to ready for the upcoming 'Dream' week at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. The team has prepared a car for NASCAR upstart Aric Almirola for the annual 'Prelude to the Dream,' which will take place at the "Big E" on Wednesday night, June 4. Wendell will then do battle at the famed 1/2-mile, high-banked oval on June 6-7, as he will vie for the $100,000 top prize in the 'Dream 100.' More information concerning the busy week at Eldora will be made available in next week's press release!
