WAYCROSS, Ga. (May 24) - Try as she might, Mother Nature was able to stop racing action for only a short time as the National Late Model Series thundered into Waycross Motor Speedway for a Memorial Day weekend race.  Qualifying was handled most efficiently as Dusty Cone, who acknowledges he does not draw (numbers) well, went first and set the mark for the remainder of the field.  He set this mark so high that not even track regulars could surpass him - giving Cone the title of Optima Trailers Fastest Qualifier.  Joining Cone on the front row was Jimmy Lee Davis - the winner the last time the Series visited Waycross and all lined up behind them.

As racing began, Cone took an early lead. However, behind him, Jimmy Lee Davis, Tyler Ivey, Cale Simons and Mike Carter were doing all they could to move to the front and take the lead from Cone.  After a few opening laps, Big John Strickland spun and went off the track on the back stretch, setting up the first caution.  Big John had been fighting the flu and a bad cough, but still arrived to run the Series race.

Racing continued, with the same guys fighting for the front positions until Mike Carter, The Blackshear Bandit, had a flat.  Cone continued leading until something broke and put an early end to his racing evening.

Jimmy Lee Davis took over the lead and off he went - not letting anyone else near him until the last lap.  Tyler Ivey, hungry for a win, bore down on the leader, but was not able to take it away.  Jimmy Lee - Trynton's grandpa - prevailed at Waycross Motor Speedway once again.  Tyler Ivey finished second; Cale Simons - finally back from school and final exams - finished third.   Points leader Brandon Cameron finished fourth while Mark Whitener held on for ninth.  Rookie point leader David Whitener finished seventh.

Next up for the Series - May 31 at Golden Isle Speedway.  See ya' at the track.
