Eric J. Westendorf SARVER, Penn. (May 21) - With just over a month remaining before the 2nd Annual Firecracker 100 presented by GottaRace.com, the field of local, regional, and national Late Model drivers is already starting to take shape. The current list of 26 registrants would make up an extremely impressive A-Main feature event. However, as the weekend (Friday-Saturday June 27-28) draws nearer, this list will continue to grow both in size and in caliber.
Lernerville Speedway Office Manager Linda Fennell locked in the first driver at the 37th Annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park back in February in Wisconsin-driver Brady Smith. Smith is the latest edition to Team Zero and the Inaugural Firecracker 100 Champion Scott Bloomquist "Prodigy" can't wait to try his hand at the 4/10-mile Action Track behind the wheel of a Bloomquist chassis that performed so well during last year's event.
Fellow Wisconsin-driver Terry Casey was the second driver to register most assuredly at the urging of Brady Smith. Both Smith and Casey have had success early this season. "The Prodigy" Brady Smith picked up a $9,999 win at the Kentucky Lake Speedway in the "99 Extravaganza" on May 5 against a field of drivers that included Billy Drake, Darren Miller, Steve Casebolt, and Earl Pearson, Jr. Meanwhile, "Mr. Excitement" Terry Casey picked up a feature win that same weekend at Paducah International Raceway.
The rest of the field is a mix of names you would expect to hear for a World of Outlaws Late Models Series sanctioned race at Lernerville Speedway.
Outlaw regulars Steve Francis, Darrell Lanigan, Josh Richards, Chub Frank, Shannon Babb, Rick Eckert, Clint Smith, Shane Clanton, Billy Moyer, Tim Fuller, Brian Shirley, John Blankenship, Vic Coffey, Danny Johnson and Joe Isabell are all registered for the 2nd Annual Firecracker presented by GottaRace.com.
Lernerville regulars Gary Lyle, Keith Barbara, John Mollick, Dutch Davies and Reigning Track Champion Alex Ferree have all submitted their paperwork and will represent the Lernerville Speedway during the two-day show on Friday-Saturday June 27-28.
Regional drivers Dan Stone, Mike Balzano, Robbie Blair and Davey Johnson have also thrown their hats in the ring and will stake their claim for the $40,000-to-win, 100-lap shootout.
One can expect this list to at least double in the next month as the rest of the members of Team Zero, drivers from the Lucas Oil Series, as well as more local and regional drivers join the list of what promises to be one of the best and brightest fields of Late Model drivers at any event this summer!
