Nicky Looney MONETT, Mo. (May 18) - Fans and race teams were finally greeted with a beautiful spring Sunday afternoon to kick off the racing action at the Monett Speedway Sunday night.
The UMP Late Model feature saw Justin Wells and Jim Fulp on the front row. As the green flag flew Wells took the front spot and moved to the high groove while Fulp and Dustin Mooneyham used the bottom of the 3/8 mile oval. Caution appeared on lap 3 as Shane Essary jumped the cushion in turn 3. Last weeks winner Brad Looney had moved into the 4th position after starting 6th on the field. Caution again waved on lap 4 as the 0 machine of Dustin Mooneyham got sideways in turn 2, sending him to the rear of the field. The green waved again, seeing Looney on the back bumper of Fulp. Looney makes the pass on Fulp using the bottom of the track, with his sights on the leader. On lap 7, Looney takes the lead, and enters lap traffic on lap 10. Looney continued to stretch his lead, working through lap traffic using the high and low groove. The battle for 3rd heated up as Fulp and Ken Essary were trying to hold off Tony Jackson Jr. Jackson Jr. took the spot on lap 15, but couldn't catch the 2nd place Wells. Looney goes on to pick up his 2nd win of the season at the Monett Speedway.
In USRA Modified action Johnny Bone Jr. set on the pole, and took the early lead. Justin Wells in 2nd with Jesse Stovall on the move. Bone proved to be to strong, as Stovall faded in the race. Wells 2nd, Jackie Dalton 3rd.
Burl Woods stepped back in a Factory Stock for the weekend and picked up his 1st win of the season. Pat Schudy held off Lonnie Muhlbauer for his 2nd win in the Pro-4's. Corey Pope took home the bomber honors, and Dallas Sales in the Rookie class.
