Roby Helm MONTPELIER, Ind. (May 15) - The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series continues its Weekly Racing Series growth in Indiana with the signing of Montpelier Motor Speedway in Montpelier, IN for two NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region events. The ¼-mile clay oval will host two $600-to-win, $100-to-start WRS events on June 28 and July 26.
Montpelier Motor Speedway, located northeast of Indianapolis, will partner with the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series' Brownstown Speedway with its Group Metal Recyclers Late Models, giving drivers two tracks in Indiana to earn both weekly and East Region points. Both Montpelier Motor Speedway events will carry double-points.
The June 28 and July 26 dates for Montpelier Motor Speedway are off dates at Brownstown Speedway. There are several more open dates in which Brownstown will not be running the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS Late Models, and series officials are currently in negotiations with several Indiana tracks to fill those available dates.
"We're excited to have Montpelier Motor Speedway as a part of the growing NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series in Indiana, and working together with Brownstown Speedway," NeSmith Chevrolet WRS Director Roby Helm said. "The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Models are gaining strength in Indiana, and this is a big step forward for the Weekly Racing Series."
Montpelier Motor Speedway began as a horse racing facility in 1903, and Tim Tygert has taken over the promotional reins of the track for 2008. Tygert recognizes the growth potential of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series in Indiana, and sees an economical way to give his fans what they want.
"Our race fans keep telling me that they want to see late models, and the GM Performance Crate Engine concept of the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series gives us dirt late models that both the race promoter and the competitors can afford," Tygert said. "If these two races go well, we'll do some more, and in the years to come we'll hopefully build a weekly division as more competitors move into this division."
Under the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series sanction, drivers competing in the two events at Montpelier Motor Speedway and in the GMR Late Model Division at Brownstown Speedway will be eligible not only to compete for an Indiana-based point fund, but also a Regional point fund using their 16 best finishes during the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series 2008 season that runs through at least October 12, 2008.
In addition, the top six point drivers in Indiana NeSmith Chevrolet WRS competition, excluding any top ten Regional point drivers, will be invited to the 3rd Annual Crate Racin' USA Fall Nationals Invitational Race at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS on November 28, 2008.
The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Indiana Champion will also be eligible to compete in the Race of Champions, and top six Regional point drivers will compete in the Race of Regions during the Fall Nationals in Columbus, MS. The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Regional Champions will receive a new GM Performance 604 Crate Engine, and a new dirt late model chassis.
The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series and the Weekly Racing Series feature dirt late models powered by the economical GM Performance Crate Engine that are built and sealed at the GM factory to prevent any expensive modifications, and are shipped and made available at GM dealers nationwide.
The 400 horsepower aluminum-head 604 engine can be purchased for right at $5,000, and the 350 horsepower steel-head 602 engine can be purchased for right at $3,000. The GM Performance 602 Crate Engine also receives a 150-pound weight break and a one inch larger carburetor spacer over the 604 engine.
The GM Performance Crate Engines are in stock and available at NeSmith Chevrolet in Claxton, GA, the nation's leading GM Performance Crate Engine dealer.
