Delph Communications CHICKAMAUGA, Ga. (May 15) - Chickamauga, Georgia native Dale McDowell, behind the wheel of Joe Armes' #77 GRT entry, picked up the $3,000 top prize last Saturday night, May 10 at the Mountain Raceway in Maryville, Tennessee! Dale timed in third fastest in Advance Auto Parts Thunder Series (AAPTS) qualifying and later finished fourth in his dash. The driver known as the "MacDaddy" then took the lead on lap 16 of the 'Mountain Spring 50' and led the final thirty-four circuits to record the $3,000 payday ahead of Billy Ogle, Jr., Randy Weaver, Rick Rogers, and Skip Arp. You can view complete results from the 'Mountain Spring 50' online at www.advanceautopartsthunderseries.com.
Dale wheeled his own #17m Rocket machine a night prior at the Wartburg Speedway in Wartburg, Tennessee. He won his heat race on Friday, May 9 at Wartburg, but pulled off the track on lap 13 running in the sixth position of the $3,000 to win Southern Regional Racing Series (SRRS) sanctioned feature event. Dale was later credited with a twenty-second place performance in the final rundown of the 50-lap affair at Wartburg. A detailed account of this race is available online at www.southernregionalracingseries.com.
"It feels great to get into victory lane once again," simply stated McDowell this week. "I had not planned on running Joe's car on Saturday at the Mountain, but he could not make the trip, so I jumped behind the wheel. The car was good all night and I have to thank him for giving me the opportunity to drive his equipment from time to time. So far, it is working out pretty well!"
Dale is scheduled to be in his own equipment this upcoming weekend when he invades the North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, Georgia and the Cleveland Speedway in Cleveland, Tennessee. A $2,000 to win unsanctioned event will take place on Friday, May 16 at North Georgia, while the O'Reilly Southern Allstars Series (OSAS) will sanction a $5,000 to win show on Saturday night at Cleveland. In addition to the winning purses, an extra $1,000 bonus is up for grabs if a driver can win both races!
