Jody Shannon ZIONSVILLE, Ind. (May 14) - After a season of coming close several times, Zionsville, Indiana driver Jim Moon finally had his taste of victory for the first time in 2008 by picking up the Indiana Crate Series win at Twin Cities Raceway Park on Saturday night. This was the first win for Moon who pilots the Moon Man Racing/Jedco Communications/The Spot Lounge/J-Force Rocks/Rogers Mobile Power Washing/Rocket Chassis.
Due to winning his qualifying heat race, Moon would start on the front row of the twenty lap feature. The first seven laps of the race, Moon would give chase to leader Jason Setser falling back a few car lengths. On lap six Setser began to smoke, and subsequently blew his radiator and looped his car in his own fluids entering turn four. "The Moonman" took evasive actions and passed Setser's spinning car to take the lead. With Setser out of the way, it was clear sailing for Moon, who took flight and lead the final thirteen laps unopposed, grabbing his first victory of the 2008 season.
"We have been close all year and we finally broke through" stated a jubilant Toby W. Hallett, crew chief for the Moon Man Racing race team. "This makes all the hard work in the shop well worth it! I would really like to thank J-Force Rocks for giving us all of the tools we need on a daily basis to continue to run at this level."
Hallett, who drove the teams back up car for the second time this season, also brought home an impressive finish driving the Jedco Communications/The Spot Lounge/J-Force Rocks/Rogers Mobile Power Washing/Rocket Chassis to a respectable 8th place. Despite only being behind the wheel of a Late Model two times in his career, Toby Hallett now has two top ten finishes and resides seventeenth in the Indiana Crate Series seasonal points standings.
This coming weekend Moon Man Racing will be back in action with Friday night's plans calling for a return to Union County Speedway in Liberty, Indiana. In Jim Moon's first and only appearance at UCS, he finished a close second to feature winner Bryan Bernhardt. On Saturday night the team will head over to the Brownstown Speedway for the NeSmith GMR Late Models Double Points night. Brownstown has also been good to "The Moonman" in the 2008 season finishing 4th and 5th in his two visits to the legendary Jackson County oval.
"The Moonman" Jim Moon and Moon Man Racing will have T-Shirts and decals available for sale at the hauler before and after the races. Both Jim and Toby enjoy meeting race fans of all ages, so if you get a chance, stop by the hauler and introduce yourself.
All of us at Moonman Racing would like to thank our 2008 sponsors, Jedco Communications, The Spot Lounge, J-Force Rocks, Rogers Mobile Powerwashing, Amore Pizza, Willy's Carburetor and Dyno Shop, Simpson Safety, Aerotech Styling, Advanced Racing Suspensions, PitMat USA, Earl's of Indy, Saldana Racing Products, and Hoosier Tire Midwest-Indy.
