Plymouth PR PLYMOUTH, Wisc. (May 10) - Plymouth Dirt Track kicked off its 2008 racing season this past Saturday night at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds. The weather was cool, with rain threatening, but it held off to get the first full night of racing underway. There were 119 cars in total attendance.
Late Models had 24 cars in attendance. In the first of three heats, 2007 Late Model champion for PDT Russ Scheffler (Waukesha) picked up the win. Kyle Odekirk (Waldo) took the checkers in the second heat race, and Scott Specht (Sheboygan Falls), 2005 Late Model champ, won the third heat.
In B-main action, Turk Letizia (Milwaukee) picked up the win with Brad Lubach (Elkhart Lake) in second. Bob Cullen (Chilton) was third, and Jim Lavey (Sheboygan) was fourth. They all transferred into the A-main feature.
In the 25 lap A-main, Russ Scheffler proved again that he knows his way around Plymouth with the first feature win this season. Dan Sorce (Franklin) was second, Randy Markwardt (Sheboygan) was third, Rick Scheffler (Waukesha) was fourth, and Craig Schueffner (Sheboygan Falls) rounded out the top five for the feature.

Sprint cars started off the night with 41 cars in five heats. Brian Kristan (Zion, IL) paced the field in the first heat to pick up the win. Jason Johnson (Allenton) took the lead on lap four of the second heat and kept at the point for the win. Heat three action saw Andy Klumb of Grafton, a sophomore driver in the series, pick up the checkers over Adam Miller of Plymouth. Dave Enders (Kiel), piloting the 51m car, the checkers in the fourth heat. In the fifth and final heat, 2007 PDT Sprint champion, Travis Luedke (Plymouth) and Danny Schlafer (Sussex) raced the final few laps wing to wing with Luedke taking the checkers.
Sprint cars had two B-main qualifiers with the top three transfering into the 25 lap A-main feature for the night. Kurt Davis (Milwaukee) beat Ben Schmidt (Plymouth) and Wayne Modjeski in the first b-main, all three cars getting the nod to the feature. Tim Melis (Waldo) showed the way around the track in the second B-main to second place finisher Paul Pokorski (West Bend) and third place finisher Jeremy Schultz.
In the 25 lap A-main feature for the Sprints, Earl Possi of Escanaba, MI and Miller brought out the Red flag when the collected each other in turn one. Possi's car sat on top of Miller's car. Both drivers were ok. Johnson found himself at the point until D. Schlafer passed on the last lap. Schlafer goes on to win the feature with Johnson in second, Kristan third, Tim Haddy (Waupun) fourth, and Pokorski rounding out the top five.
Grand Nationals had 32 cars for four heat races. Jeremy Sauter (Random Lake) picked up the win in the first heat. Cliff Annis won the second heat. Loren Lubach (Sheboygan) took the checkers in the third heat, and Luke Scholten (Oostburg) picked up the win in the fourth and final heat for the Grand Nationals.
The B-main qualifier found Brian Kaat (Plymouth) picking up the win and the first of four transfer spots to the feature. Brad Dahmer (Sheboygan Falls) was second with Tim Warner (Malone) behind him in third, and Jason Dyer (New Holstein) was fourth.
In the 25 lap feature for the Grand Nationals, Sauter picked up where he left of in the heat race to pick up the win over L. Sholten. Lubach was right behind them in third. Dave Holm (Kewaskum) finished fourth and Tyler Nault (Port Washington) was fifth for the feature.
The Outlaw Compact division had one heat and their 15 lap feature race. Jake Meyer picked up the win in the heat race over Jason Juech (West Bend).
In the 15 lap feature, Steven Weber (Plymouth) picked up the win over Jason Juech.

Plymouth Dirt Track races every Saturday Night at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds. Gates open at 4:00pm, with racing starting at 6:00 after the opening ceremonies. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students aged 12-15, and accompanied children 11 and under are free.
