FARLEY, Iowa (May 9) - After a very wet spring, the racing season at Farley Speedway finally got underway with NASCAR Late Models and a special appearance by the IMCA Late Models. This was the first race on the newly-constructed 3/8 mile track inside the ½ mile track.
Brian Harris drew the pole position for the NASCAR Late Model feature event and used it to jump to the early lead. Harris went on to win the feature event, leading all twenty-five laps, over Andy Eckrich, Jeremiah Hurst, Darin Duffy and Curt Martin.
Jeff Aikey made a return to his old stomping-grounds and proved he still knows how to get around the Farley Speedway, even on the new track. Aikey used his pole position to get the jump on outside front row starter Curt Martin and pulled away from the field. By lap 13, Aikey had a straight-away lead on the field. Behind him, the field was battling side-by-side for positions throughout the field. Aikey was able to protect his lead over Curt Martin through multiple cautions. On lap 23, a side-by-side battle was brewing between Charlie McKenna and Dale Hackwell who made a hard charge through field after being involved in a lap three caution. Fireworks flew on the last lap, as contact among top-five running drivers caused a pile-up which forced drivers to scramble for position. This was all behind Jeff Aikey, who took the win easily over Luke Goedert, Dale Hackwell, Darin Burco and Travis Smock.
Earlier in the night, Tyler Soppe took the first race win on the new 3/8-mile track in the limited stock heat race. Mike Bockhop took the Limited Stock feature to win the first feature event on the 3/8-mile track. Other feature winners included Jason Schueller (Modifieds), Rick Brokus (Stock Cars), Jed Freiburger (B-Modifieds) and Dustin Wilwert (Farley Flyers).
