Mike Leone MERCER, Penn. (May 6) - After last Saturday's third rain out of the season, Mercer Raceway Park hopes to resume action this Saturday night, May 10 with the Luxaire Heating & Cooling Sprint Cars, Tire Express Modifieds, McElwain Motors FASTRAK Late Models, Big Daddy's Speed Center Mod Lites, and M&D Paving Mini Stocks at 7 p.m. Saturday's promotion is $10 Family Night with kids bike races along with last Saturday's postponed Free Beaver County Night. It's Twin-State Auto Racing Club and Pittsburgh Circle Track Club Night plus it's Area Shopper Corp Night.
The second $10 Family Night presented by Auto Service Express & Armstrong will highlight Saturday's promotion. Mom, dad, and as many kids 15 and under will be admitted for just $10, which is more than a $15 savings off the already reduced family pass!
"Our $10 Family Nights have been great for us," explained 10th year owner Vicki Emig. "We attract so many new people and those that otherwise may have not been able to attend. We had a great turnout last month so with good weather expected we're hoping a lot of families again take advantage of this great savings. We'll be having them on June 14, July 12, and August 9 too."
All residents of Beaver County will be admitted free into the grandstands for general admission by simply presenting ID showing a Beaver County address. All children 15 and under accompanied by a Beaver County adult will also be admitted free. The Free Beaver County Night is presented by Image Factory Signs & Graphics. Image Factory is located on Route 51 in Fallston, Pa. Owner Jon Hogue is a racing enthusiast and will be doing Mercer Raceway Park's 2008 apparel and merchandise hopefully beginning next Saturday night. Hogue has also lettered many race cars.
"We put a lot of effort into these free county nights and we didn't want to see Beaver County residents miss out due to last week's rain," stated Emig. "Beaver County is a good area for us to promote to new people- many of whom have never been to Mercer Raceway Park or dirt track racing in general. It's a good way for us to expose our facility to a new audience."
The first of three kids bike races will be held presented by Ray's Racing Collectibles and Eat 'n Park restaurants. Kids 12 and under can sign-up with their parents until approximately 7:45 p.m. to compete against kids their ages on the speedway during intermission.
Current point leaders are two-time champion Rod George (Kittanning, Pa) in the Luxaire Heating & Cooling Sprint Cars, second year racer Eric Gabany (Mercer, Pa.) in the Tire Express Modifieds, Todd Canter (Warren, Ohio) in the Big Daddy's Speed Center Mod Lites, and 15-year-old Chris Myers (Knox, Pa.) in the M&D Paving Mini Stocks. Ironically, other than Myers who has won every heat and feature he's entered this year, none of the point leaders have been victorious this season at Mercer.
For all other adults, admission is $11, students 6-15 are $5, and children five and under are free. Pit passes are $25. Pit gates open at 3:30 p.m. and the grandstands at 4:30. Hot laps will take to the track at 6:15 with heat races beginning at 7 p.m.
Mercer Raceway Park is located minutes from both Interstate 79 and 80 just off Route 19 on Fairground Road in Mercer, Pa. Dirt track racing and quality family entertainment are presented weekly late March through September. The office in New Bedford, Pa. is open year-round late mornings and after 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
