(May 5) - Richard Stephens of Phenix City, AL has taken over the point lead of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region with the defending East Region Champion Logan Yates of Delta, AL right on his heels just two points behind in the second spot. Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS continues to lead the West Region.
Stephens finished fifth on Friday night at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL, and now has 250 points with one win, four top fives, and six top ten finishes in six starts. Yates took the fourth spot on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL to bring his season point total to 248 points with one win, two top fives, and six top tens in six starts.
Anthony Meadows of Lanett, AL is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region with 240 points, and Adam Martin of Talladega, AL is fourth with 238 points. Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL is fifth with 228 points. Dana Eiland of Salem, AL and Brian Ponder of Talladega, AL are tied for sixth with 220 points apiece.
Larry Harrod of Plains, GA took the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region win on Friday night at Penton Raceway, and is eighth in the standings with 216 points. Landon Sims of Jacksonville, AL is ninth with 203 points, and Cory Korreckt of Lincoln, AL rounds out the top ten in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region standings with 191 points.
In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region action on Saturday night, Jason Hiett of Lincoln, AL topped at 26-car field to take the win at Talladega Short Track, and Steve Barnett of Franklin, IN was the best of a 14-car field as the winner at Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, IN.
Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region action at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL and Chattahoochee Valley Motor Speedway in Dothan, AL was rained out.
Keeton continues to lead the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region with 250 points after five starts with four wins, and one second-place effort. The defending and two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion has a commanding 52-point lead over Herman Reynolds of Laurel, MS and Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS, who are tied for second.
Talbert Goldman of Meridian, MS is fourth with 172 points, and Josh Huss of Flomaton, AL moved up to the fifth spot with 165 points. Chris Griffin of Flomaton, AL is sixth with 153 points, and Heath Gibson of Brewton, AL is seventh with 148 points. Larry Murphy of Meridian, MS is eighth with 140 points, and Tootie Arnold of Meadville, MS is ninth with 139 points. Micha McCall of Flomaton, AL rounds out the top ten in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings with 137 points.
Mark Clifton of Brewton, AL was the winner on Saturday night among the 17 entrants at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL. The victory was the second straight for Clifton this season at Flomaton Speedway in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region action.
Mother Nature once again took a heavy hit in the West Region with three rainouts. Southern Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS rained out for the fifth time in six weeks on Friday night, while A1 Raceway in Slidell, LA and Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS rained out on Saturday night. Baton Rouge Raceway in Baton Rouge, LA and Butler County Motorsports Park in Greenville, AL did not report their results.
The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region will be off this weekend due to the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring events at Southern Speedway on Friday night, and A1 Raceway on Saturday night.
