SYLVANIA, Ga. (May 3) - Seventeen year old Florida dirt late model racer Dillon Wood of New Smyrna Beach, Florida picked up his first career super late model win in Saturday night at the Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Georgia. Wood hit the hat trick on the night by setting quick time, winning the dash and winning the thirty lap feature on the red clay 1/3 mile Georgia oval.

Dillon's lap of 14.72 seconds was nearly two full tenths faster than that of Chesley Dixon, Wood's closest rival of the evening. Screven's format calls for the fastest qualifier to draw a pill for an invert for a dash that determines starting positions. Dillon drew a number three for the invert which put him on the inside second row for the Dash for Cash. The front row was made up of Dixon and John Kellum.

When the green flag flew Wood powered by Kellum through turn one. Wood then moved in on Dixon and drove by him one lap later to take the win and put himself on the inside pole for the feature event. "My car was so good on the bottom. I love coming here to Screven because the track is always racy and it is a lot of fun to race on. When we won that dash I knew we were the car to beat hands down. My dad and Alex had the car just perfect." Wood said.

Dixon grabbed the advantage on the start of the feature but Wood was right on his rear deck. Wood pulled even on several occasions and was able to pass Dixon a few times but the caution waved each time negating the pass. Finally, with just four laps remaining, Wood was able to make the pass and take the lead for good. "It feels really good to get this first win in a super. And to get it here at my favorite track makes it even better. Hopefully we can take this momentum and build on it next week on the road." said Wood.

"We want to thank everybody that has helped us along the way to get here. Shorty Bearden at Bearden Oil has always been a big part of our program and Jason Young at Ohlins has been a big help to us too. Redd has stepped up for us this year and we have Screven and Savannah River Dragway on the car. We just want everyone to know that we appreciate their help and we plan to give them plenty more of these (wins)." Wood said after the race.

Dillon Wood and the Dillon Wood Racing Team would like to thank their sponsors for the continued support.
