Delph Communications BATESVILLE, Ark. (May 1) - The Wendell Wallace Autosports team invaded the Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Alabama over the weekend for a pair of Dirt Late Model events. While at the track deemed as the "Hornet's Nest," Wendell Wallace recorded his second win of the 2008 racing season on Saturday night, April 26. Wendell laid down the fastest lap in O'Reilly Southern Allstars Series (OSAS) qualifying on Saturday and later rolled off from the pole position for the 50-lap main event. The Batesville, Arkansas driver ran second for the majority of the race before passing leader Tony Knowles for the point in heavy lapped traffic on the last lap. Wendell received $5,000 for the exciting OSAS triumph over Knowles, Shane Clanton, Ronnie Johnson, and Tim Busha.
A night earlier, Wendell and his #88 team competed in a $2,000 to win unsanctioned event at TST. Wendell was fourth quickest in time trials, which earned him the outside second row starting spot for the A-Main. The driver known as the "Batesville Bullet" ran amongst the leaders throughout the race and was battling for the lead with Shane Clanton and Chris Madden on the final lap when he flew over the banking. Wendell did not finish the event and instead drove his #88 GRT / Gaerte entry into the pit area and was later relegated with a disappointing seventeenth place effort. "I feel good about the way our car is running right now, as I had a shot to win both of those races at Talladega over the weekend," stated Wallace this week. "I was right there with (Shane) Clanton and (Chris) Madden on Friday night when I decided to make a move to the top on the last lap. Unfortunately, the car didn't stick up there and I flew over the bank. Then the race on Saturday was a lot of fun and made up for the disappointment from Friday night. Tony (Knowles) probably had a little better car than we did, but lapped traffic played into our hands and we were able to get the win."
Wendell Wallace and his #88 team have changed their schedule for the upcoming weekend due to the weather forecast. They will now attend the following races this upcoming weekend!
May 2 | Batesville (AR) Speedway, MSRA | $2,000 to win May 3 | I-44 (MO) Speedway, World of Outlaws | $10,000 to win May 4 | Monett (MO) Speedway, World of Outlaws, $7,000 to win
