Steve Hixson CHATSWORTH, Ga. (April 25) - The SKIPPER Skip Arp of Georgetown, Tennessee pounded the field Friday night at North Georgia Speedway, to the tune of $1,200 winning the 30 lap feature. The NASTY FAST 1/3 mile clay banked dirt track was in ripe condition as the Super Late Models took to qualifying time trials. Arp hit a 13:087 time, but it was Chatsworth racer Aaron Ridley stunning the field with a 12:331, which cam close to the track record held by Ricky Arms of Moss, TN (12:269), which was set back in November 2007 at the TURKEY RUMBLE. In the 10 lap heat Arp took the whole shot from the outside as Ridley and 15x and reigning track champion Gary McPherson battled. Mike Satterfield injured his hand in a hard hit in turn one and two. For the feature Arp's "FRONT ROW JOE" starter was McPherson, and it was a non-stop ROMP N' STOMP for the # 31 "Christenberry Trucking & Farm, Midnite Oil Racing Fuel, Stanley Best Heating & Air" sponsored GRT / Vic Hill powered, Pontiac GTO racecar, leading sometimes by as much as a half a track over G-MAC. McPherson closed the distance considerably, with the aide of back-marker traffic. Ridley was 3rd and the only other racer on the lead lap. Bobby Giffen and Robert Stutts rounded out the Top 5 with Scott Hall and a subbing Brian Burke finishing the event. Todd Morrow was at the track late and made some practice-laps with his new black racecar, but didn't race.
Tanner Works (# T35) of Cleveland, TN won Hobby Mid Season Championship race over Greg Ledford and Donny Farmer. Works took the lead from fast qualifier Ledford who backed-up last Friday's win with a second place run. Donny Farmer finished a solid 3rd. The worst incident of the night happened in turn one when John Clark and Marshall Wilbanks careened off the turn one outside wall. Both were uninjured, but Clark destroyed his # 10 racecar. The Limited/Crate/Sportsman combo class was the race of the night as 22 racecars entered the event. A lap one tangle occurred when Spencer Singleton got tapped on the start and stacked the field (literally for Larry Higgins) crashing about a half-dozen racecars. Piloting a new/unfamiliar black #22 MasterSbilt racecar, Rick Hixson of Soddy Daisy, TN, barely held off Trig Parris. Parris dropped as far back as 4th before rallying the caution plagued race, with the final laps on the HIGH line. Hixson's move, to block the line, in turn 3 on the last lap was the difference. In other racing Davis Beam won the Econo Bomber feature, with the Pony feature going to Jimmy Elliott of Cleveland. Next weekend, at the North Georgia Speedway has a Full Regular Racing Program, with racing in all five of its divisions. For more information visit the track web-site www.northgeorgiaspeedway.com.
