Jason Shank FRANKLIN, Penn. (April 23) - The 2007 Mid-Atlantic Championship Series (MACS) Rookie of the Year Matt Lux and his M3 Motorsports, Inc. race team opened the 2008 MACS season on Saturday, April 12th at Cumberland, MD's 'The Rock' Allegany County Speedway. Matt then made his way to Lernerville Speedway for the 'Showdown in Sarvertown' sanctioned by the World of Outlaws Late Model Series (WoO) on Tuesday, April 15th and then it was back to the Sarver, PA speed plant for a regular show on Friday, April 18th. The team stayed local the next night for the $2,000 to win, unsanctioned event at Challenger Raceway in Jacksonville, PA.
The MACS season opener at 'The Rock' was a night the M3 Motorsports, Inc. team would probably like to forget. After the team was forced to go to a backup car after practice, Matt was unable to transfer to the 'Western Maryland Open 50' through his heat or B-Main. Fortunately Matt was high enough in the 2007 MACS point standings to earn a birth in the A-Main by virtue of a provisional. Matt was able to work his way up to a 15th place finish after starting 23rd.
The mid-week WoO show at Lernerville was much different for Lux, Matt qualified sixth fastest out of the 50 cars to take time and won his heat race against some of the best in the business. Matt's heat win put him in the re-draw for the feature, Lux pulled the number six to put his AlturnaMATS® / EquipmentWorld Magazine / DICA / Maloney Tool & Mold / Wedge Motorsports Cornett powered Rocket Chassis #21 sixth in the starting grid. Despite being extremely good early in the evening, Matt faded throughout the 50 lap event edging out Shannon Babb for 15th.
On Friday the team arrived at Lernerville a bit late as a result of some mechanical problems with their hauler but arrived in time for the B-Main of the regular season opener at the speedway. Matt started the 'B' dead last but made light work of the field to take the win and transfer to the 25 lap feature event. Lux methodically worked his way through the field to finish ninth. The next night at Challenger Raceway Matt finished the evening with another solid top ten crossing under the checkered flag seventh. The team was to compete at Challenger again on Sunday but mother nature forced officials to postpone the event until this Sunday, April 27th.
Lux and the M3 Motorsports Inc. race team will be back in action this Friday at Lernerville Speedway for their regular Late Model event featuring the All-Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car Series. On Saturday the team will head south to Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, MD for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned 27th Annual "Stanley Schetrompf Memorial" that will pay $10,000 to the winner, and on Sunday, Matt will return to the Challenger Raceway for the rescheduled Unified Force Race Championship event paying $5,000 to the winner.
