Jason Shank SOUTH PARK, Penn. (April 22) - Keith Barbara and Forbes Field Motorsports' 2008 season is now in full swing as the team made trips to 'The Rock' Allegany County Speedway in Cumberland, MD for the Mid-Atlantic Championship Series (MACS) sanctioned 'Western Maryland Open 50' on Saturday, April 12th. The team then found themselves at Lernerville Speedway on Tuesday, April 15th for the World of Outlaws Late Model Series (WoO) sanctioned 'Showdown in Sarvertown' and Friday April 18th for the Speedway's Opening Night of weekly competition. They were also in action at the Challenger Speedway in Jacksonville, PA on Saturday, April 19th for a $2,000 to win event.
In Cumberland, Keith made his first MACS start in two years when he started 19th in the 'Western Maryland Open 50'. Keith also came home in the 19th position at 'The Rock'. "The car was actually pretty good," Keith said, "I think if we would have started up front we would have been able to run with the leaders, there was just so much traffic, it was hard to pass."
At Lernerville Keith was never really able to get going at all during the 'Showdown at Sarvertown' timing in 22nd of the 50 cars to take time. But in the heat and B-Main Barbara found trouble. In his heat race he made contact with WoO Star, Chub Frank on the back stretch bending a support brace on the nose of his Comcast / Triangle Benefit Services / Potoka Trucking / Forbes Field Garage / Ran Group Racing Tours sponsored #17 Rocket Chassis. The nose was digging into the racetrack forcing Keith to the pit area. In the 'B' it was much of the same for the South Park, PA throttle jockey as he was unable to transfer to the A-Main.
The following Friday at Lernerville Speedway, Barbara won his heat race and battled with Hall of Famer and eventual race winner Lynn Geisler for numerous laps until fading late in the 25 lap feature to grab his first top 10 of the 2008 season finishing sixth. On Saturday at Challenger Raceway, Keith again won his heat race and nabbed his first top 5 of the season finishing fifth in the $2,000 to win event!
The Forbes Field Motorsports team will be back in action this Friday. The team is still uncertain on where they will race on Friday, April 25. They will be at either Bedford Speedway for the Lucas Oil Late Model Series sanctioned Bedford Valley Petroleum sponsored "Paul Beamer Memorial" paying $7,000 to win, or Lernerville Speedway for their regular UMP DIRTcar Late Model show that also features the All-Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car Series. Keep an eye on www.keithbarbara.net for the final decision. On Sunday the team will head back to Challenger Raceway for the rescheduled Unified Force Race Championship event paying $5,000 to the winner.
