CONCORD, N.C. (April 16) - Matt Long and the GazZu Energy Drink Racing Team competed in a pair Fastrak Champions Series sanctioned events over the weekend. Friday night found the team at the Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC and they moved over to Antioch Speedway in Morganton, NC on Saturday. Both events paid $2000 to the winners. Long was able to run and finish well in both events pushing him ever closer the Fastrak point lead in the Southern and Mid-Eastern Regions.

On Friday night Matt's evening started out pretty well during time trials with a strong tenth place effort in a very stout field of forty cars. "I was a little too tight or it would have been better. But we have really improved our program here at Cherokee. The last time we came we didn't make the show, so this is a real improvement. And as long as we are getting better when we go somewhere that's a positive." said Long. Matt eventually finished eleventh in the rain shortened event.

Saturday night the GazZu crew headed north to Antioch Speedway for the final event of weekend. Matt was once again fast right out of the trailer, timing in fifth fastest overall at the big half mile. Matt's race was uneventful as he finished where he started in fifth. "We have really stepped it up a notch this year. Of course everybody else has too. So we feel pretty good being able to be competitive with Royce (Bray) and (Jonathan) Davenport and those guys. They have a lot more experience than me so I think we are in the right track." commented Long.

"Our racing program just continues to get better and better. Mike Lutz and Mike Farr at Genesis Racing Shocks have really been invaluable to shortening my learning curve. And their shocks have really helped our car drive better. Me and the guys are really getting better at making adjustments to the car that help it. And I think our finishes are starting to reflect that. We have been very competitive every where we have raced. We were running in the top ten at 311 Speedway and had a hole in the radiator sideline us." said Long.

Long added "I am more excited to get to the race track every week now too. Because not only are we running well, it has been really cool having GazZu Energy Drinks as our primary sponsor this year. The sampling has been such a huge success. We have been getting a ton of folks stopping by and meeting us and sampling GazZu and they really seem to like it. They all want to know where they can get it. We keep telling to find their nearest Circle K Convenience Stores."

Matt and the GazZu Energy Drink Team will next compete in the first round of the six race GazZu Energy Drink / Mega-Tan Late Model Series on Saturday April 26th at The Antioch Speedway in Morganton, NC. It is possible the team could head over to the all new Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, NC on Friday night April 25th but watch www.mattlongracing.com for updates to the schedule.
