Joe Dunn CROSSVILLE, Tenn. (April 14) - With last weeks scheduled season opener postponed due to rain and a water main break, Crossville Raceway is ready to drop the green flag on the 2008 season. The water problem has been repaired, a new pit office was installed and the weather man is calling for a perfect night for racing on the Cumberland Plateau.
The gates will open Friday at 5 pm with Hot Laps at 6:30 and Racing Action at 7:30 pm (central) to kick off the new year with 7 classes of racing excitement. Watch for some tight wheel to wheel action as the UMP Open Wheel Modifieds return to highlight the program, joined by the Late Model Sportsman cars. Returning for another season will be the Modified Minis, Street Stock and the Cruiser Cars. The Pure Mini class (formerly the Front Wheel Drive class) will host both front and rear wheel drive cars for 2008, and returning after an absence last year will be the Pro Street class.
A special intermission program is planned that will include a Kids Foot Race on the front straight. All kids attending Friday are welcome to compete for the grand prize and all participants will receive a Crossville Raceway souvenir. Our track photographer Joe Dunn will be on hand to capture the action and prints will be available at the track souvenir stand.
This Friday will be a warm up as the track prepares for April 25th when the Southern Regional Racing Series returns once again to their Original East Tennessee track. The $3,000.00 to win Super Late Model Race promises plenty of action from the top drivers in the south. The SRRS traditionally brings with it a large car count, sometimes exceeding 50 cars, hailing from Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, Kentucky as well as Indiana and Arkansas.
Crossville Raceway is located at 5434 Hwy 70N, Crossville, Tn. 38571. With easy access from any of I-40's 3 Crossville exits, the track is conveniently located between Knoxville and Nashville and less than 30 minutes from Cookeville, Tn.
