BYRAM, Miss. (April 12) - Jackson Motor Speedway kicked off the 2008 season on Saturday night with a huge field of race cars and some great racing action.

By race time on Saturday night, 111 race cars were registered for the evening's festivities. Scott Slay from Clinton, Mississippi got the night underway by setting fast time in the Extreme Wireless Super Late Model division. Slay, along with Chris McElheney, Jimmy Cliburn, David Ashley, Jeremy Braudus, and Dennis Duncan all locked into the feature event via time trials, with the balance of the field divided into two qualifying heat races.

The first qualifier was topped by Open Wheel Modified graduate, Brooks Strength of Byram, Mississippi, who was driving a Super Late Model for the first time. Strength was chased to the checkers by Darin Dorsey from Brandon, Mississippi. In the second qualifier it was Meridian, Mississippi driver, Chad Thrash, taking the win over Steve Bryan of Collinsville, Mississippi.

In the feature event, Scott Slay started on the pole, and led every lap of the feature despite developing a rear end problem with 10 laps to go. Eighth starting Chad Thrash, caught Slay in the late stages of the event, but was unable to complete the pass. Dennis Duncan, David Ashley, and Jimmy Cliburn rounded out the top five finishers.

The Home Improvement Company Limited Late Model main event was topped by Chad Thrash with Tony Henry and David Worrell rounding out the top three.

DJ Purvis won the Franklin Paving UMP Open Wheel Modified feature over Jimmy Cliburn and Ryan Allday.

The Trick Race & Hawkins Machine Shop Street Stock main event saw a great battle with Kevin Whittington taking the checkered flag and was followed by Michael Williams and Davey Easterling.

The Touch of Class Body Shop Stinger main event was won by Jason Whittington with Justin Miller and Joe Perez rounding out the podium.

The Mini Stock feature win was claimed by Jason Odom as Tim Sullivan and Rocky Dillard rounded out the top three spots.
