Delph Communications YORK, Penn. (April 3) - The Raye Vest Racing team jumped back on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series trail over the March 28-29 weekend, as round three of the grueling series schedule took the #24 team to the Pike County Speedway in Magnolia, Mississippi. Rick Eckert timed in seventh fastest in WOOLMS qualifying on Friday night, March 28 and later finished second in his competitive heat race.
When the action resumed at the southern Mississippi speedplant on Saturday, March 29, Rick drew the number five pill, which enabled his #24 GRT / Custom entry to roll off from the inside of the third row for the $20,000 to win A-Main. The York, Pennsylvania native got up to as high as third in the rundown before finishing the 'March Through Dixie 100' in the seventh spot. Rick is now tied for third in the latest version of the WOOLMS point standings following the Pike County event over the weekend. For complete results, please visit www.worldofoutlaws.com!
"We just didn't tighten up enough for the feature," quoted Eckert this week. "Our car was still pretty good and we were able to pressure for the second spot early, but we just missed the setup a little. It was still a solid run for us and moved us up into a tie for third in the points."
Rick and his #24 team will invade the Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, Illinois this coming weekend for another $20,000 to win World of Outlaws Late Model Series show. Qualifying and heat race action will take place on Friday night, April 4, while the last chance races and the 100-lap 'Illini 100' are slated for Saturday evening. The inaugural running of the 'Illini 100' will mark the biggest Dirt Late Model event ever held in the state of Illinois. Rick plans to debut a new C.J. Rayburn-built racecar this weekend at Farmer City. You can learn more about the weekend festivities online at www.worldofoutlaws.com.
"I think this new Rayburn car will be a great compliment to what we have with the GRT stuff," Eckert went on to say. "We plan to run the Rayburn car at tracks where the surface is rough and fast, along with little bullrings that require you to throw it in the corner and stand on it. The team has worked really hard in recent weeks putting this car together and I look forward to racing it for the first time at Farmer City. We tested it extensively this week in Mississippi and I was really pleased with how the car performed."
