Ben Shelton BYRAM, Miss. (March 31) - The new era at Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, Mississippi gets underway this Saturday, April 5th as the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series (MSCCS) Super Late Models invade the racy oval in a $2,500 to win, 50 lap event.
The off-season has been a very busy time at Jackson Motor Speedway with veteran racer, Don Cliburn, taking over the ownership role of the ¼ mile, dirt oval. Since assuming the reigns, Cliburn and his staff have made several major improvements to the central Mississippi oval with several more in store. Some of the improvements already completed include a complete remodel of the concessions, bathrooms, and backstretch and pit side bleachers. Asphalt walkways have been installed from the entrance gates to the bleachers to more comfortably accommodate the spectators at JMS. The announcer/scorer's tower has been completely redone and a brand new scoreboard has been installed. With all of these improvements already completed and several more on the way, the future at Jackson Motor Speedway is looking bigger and brighter than ever.
Action gets underway on Friday night with an Open Practice session. General admission is free and pit admission is $10 for ages 13 and up.
On Saturday night, the MSCCS Super Late Models will headline the program in a $2,500 To Win, $300 To Start 50 lap event. Also, on the card will be Limited Late Models, UMP Open Wheel Modifieds, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, and Stingers. The MSCCS Super Late Model entry fee is $100 with a $10 registration for all of the other divisions. The purses for all of the local divisions can be found at www.JacksonMotorSpeedway.net .
Grandstand general admission for the event is $15. Pit admission is $30.
Pit gates open at 4 pm with the grandstand area opening at 5 pm. Hot laps will be at 6 pm with drivers meeting 6:30 pm and heat races at 7 pm.
This week's program will serve as a tune up for all of the Jackson Motor Speedway classes as point's racing will begin with the Weekly Racing Series Event on Saturday, April 12th. Track promoter, Don Cliburn, has been lining up several contingencies for the drivers in 2008. One of the incentives that has already been confirmed is a brand new, GRT Open Wheel Modified chassis for the track UMP Modified Champion.
Class sponsors have already been lined up for the 2008 season as well and they are the Extreme Wireless Super Late Models, Franklin Paving UMP Open Wheel Modifieds, The Home Improvement Company Street Stocks, and the Touch of Class Body Shop Stingers.
Also, as a clarification, please note that the only tires allowed in the UMP Open Wheel Modified class are the Hoosier G-60 or H-84.
