Delph Communications BATESVILLE, Ark. (March 28) - The Wendell Wallace Autosports team invaded the Clarksville Speedway in Clarksville, Tennessee on March 21-22 for the annual 'Tuckasee Toilet Bowl Classic.' The UMP DIRTcar Series sanctioned the event over the weekend, which was highlighted by a $10,000 to win A-Main on Saturday, March 22. Wendell Wallace was stout during group qualifying on Friday evening before taking the win in his heat race. When the action resumed on Saturday, the Batesville, Arkansas native rolled off from the inside of the second row for the main event.
Wendell ran in the third position early in the race, but overtook the second spot on lap 23 and started tracking down leader Don O'Neal. As the two raced through heavy lapped traffic, two backmarkers spun in front of Wallace's #88 GRT / Gaerte entry and collected him. Wendell's mount suffered heavy right side damage due to the incident and his strong run went to the wayside, as he was forced to retire from the race in the seventeenth position. "We were pretty good the other night at Clarksville," quoted Wallace earlier in the week. "Lady Luck just wasn't on our side I guess. I don't know if I could have passed (Don) O'Neal for the lead or not, because it was awfully hard to pass, but he would have known we were there. The way the track was one-lane, I definitely feel like we would have at least run second, but the incident with the lapped cars ended that for us. It is unfortunate, but we will fix everything this week and get ready for our next two races this weekend!"
The #88 team has finally decided on two races to close out their month of March. Tonight will find the team at the North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, Georgia for the annual running of the 'Ernest Young Memorial.' The O'Reilly Southern Allstars Series (OSAS) will sanction the event, which will pay $5,000 to the winner tonight. On Saturday, March 29, Wendell and the team will trek to the Checkered Flag Speedway in Hohenwald, Tennessee for a $5,000 to win Southern Regional Racing Series (SRRS) show.
