Bob Appleget CLEVELAND, Tenn. (March 25) - March weather has been less than kind to both North Georgia and Cleveland Speedways. The end result of a snow and cold out and two rainouts is a double-header weekend where one driver could go home with a $15,000 payday.
Rescheduled for the third time the Ernest Young Memorial will be run Friday night at North Georgia Speedway. The SAS Series event will pay $5,000 to win. On Saturday night the third attempt to run the Sonya's Used Cars Shamrock 60 will take place at Cleveland Speedway. The SAS Series event will pay $7,500 to win. If one driver can win both events he will pick up a $2,500 bonus from Car Smart of Cleveland. If both races are not won by one driver, the high point man receives a $500 bonus.
At Cleveland the fast qualifier can pick up another $250 compliments of Midnight Oil Racing Fuels with $100 going to the second fastest qualifier. Plus the fast qualifier in the Limited/Crate Late Model event will pick up $100 and $50 will go to the second highest qualifier
At North Georgia the support divisions will be Limited/Crate/Sportsman division as well as the Pony and Econo Bombers. At Cleveland it will be the Limited/Crate Late Models and A and B Hobby divisions.
"There is a lot of money on the line this weekend. With drivers being able to run two good paying races within 50 miles of each other you know there will be a bunch of quality cars and some hard nosed racing," said promoter Monty Morrow. "It will not only be good for the racers it will be good for the fans to be able to see the best without traveling long distances."
At both tracks the pit gates will open at 2 pm and the grandstands at 3 pm. Racing is scheduled to start at 6 pm. Adult grandstand tickets are $17 with kids 6-11 $3 and under six are free. Pit passes for this special event will be $30.
