Bill Sawyer's Virginia Motor Speedway will swing the gates open for the ½ mile, high-banked clay oval speed plants 39th Season Opener, which will kick off the speedway's most ambitious schedule to date, on Saturday Night, March 29th. With an emphasis on Fast Family Fun the 2008 schedule is packed with quality family entertainment from start to finish and is highlighted with 25 weeks of Championship action and six special events and thrilling attractions for the entire family!
This Saturday, March 29th is WRAR 105.5 "Pack the Track" Night featuring a "Buy One Ticket, Get One Ticket" promotion. Bring a friend, dad, mom, the kids and your next door neighbor to "Pack the Track" for the season opener. The evenings events will include four divisions of exciting high octane, side by side dirt track racing.
Competitor gates for Saturday, March 29th will open at 12 noon with spectator gates opening at 4pm. On track activities will begin at 6:15pm with hot laps. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday: Victory Lap Late Models (35 Laps); Budweiser Modifieds (25 Laps); New Generation Racing Sprint Cars (25 laps); and the Limited Stock Cars (A Feature 20 Laps, B Feature 12 laps). All divisions will run Hot Lap Time Trials and Features. Admission price for Adults $10, Seniors and Military $8; Students 13 - 17 years old $7, Children 7 - 12 years old $4 and Children 6 and under admitted free.
Heading into opening night, 147 competitors are pre-registered and ready to compete for the five coveted titles and the overall Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Championship at Virginia Motor Speedway. Speedway officials are expecting to see even more competitors registering during the first two weeks of competition.
Bill Sawyer's Virginia Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track affiliate, is a 1/2-mile, dirt oval. The track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads areas. Free Camping is available with no hook-ups.
