WHEATLAND, Mo. (March 24) - The Lucas Oil Speedway opened the pit gates for the first time this season Saturday, March 22nd and just over 100 cars rolled through for a pre-season practice session.

"The number of cars kind of surprised me," said Kevin Greven, General Track Manager, "I mean we always have an awesome car count, but today it was cold not to mention it's Easter weekend."

Over all it was a pretty diverse group of race cars that filled the pits. Late Models, "A" Modifieds and Factory Stocks of which we will see a lot of this season made up the majority. However, there were a number of Bombers, Sprint Cars and a Vintage Racer also vying for practice time on the Diamond of Dirt Tracks.

"Actually, the car count today really doesn't surprise me," added Greven. "I think it is indicative of what we are going to see here all season. Our weekly purses are up from 40 to 60 percent over last year and we have worked hard to create special events for all of these racers throughout the season."
Some of those special events include two "Double Money Nights" for each class spread out across the schedule. The 2008 season opens next Saturday, March 29th with the Miller Lite ULMA Late Models, Pitt's Homes "A" Modifieds, and Transport Graphics Factory Stocks all in action.

"Earlier Start Times for Season Opener"

The one week count down to the 2008 season at the Lucas Oil Speedway starts today. This Saturday, March 29th the Diamond of Dirt Tracks opens the gates on what has been called the most aggressive schedule in the Nation.

Speaking of opening the gates, for the first two events of the season, we will try and get started a bit early. The gates which normally open at 5 p.m. will open at 4. Racing which throughout the rest of season will start around 7 p.m. will start at 6 p.m. for our first two events.

"It might not be a problem, but there is a possibility, being March and early April for it to be a bit colder," said Kevin Greven, General Track Manager. "As always, we are just looking out for the fans."

This Saturday, March 29th fans will see the Pitt's Homes "A" Modifieds, Miller Lite ULMA Late Models, and the Transport Graphic Factory Stocks in action. The following week, Saturday April 5th it's the Bolivar Free-Press O'Reilly MLRA Late Model Clash; the first of 20 special races this season.

Still the best racin' in the Nation, just and hour early for the first two weeks. For more information go to LucasOilSpeedway.com or call (417) 282-5984.
