Ben Shelton JACKSON, Miss. (March 19) - Less than three weeks remains until Jackson Motor Speedway (JMS) in Byram, Mississippi roars back to life for the 2008 season.
The off-season has been a very busy time at Jackson Motor Speedway with veteran racer, Don Cliburn, taking over the ownership role of the ¼ mile, dirt oval. Since assuming the reigns, Cliburn and his staff have made several major improvements to the central Mississippi oval with several more in store. Some of the improvements already completed include a complete remodel of the concessions, bathrooms, and backstretch and pit side bleachers. Asphalt walkways have been installed from the entrance gates to the bleachers to more comfortably accommodate the spectators at JMS. The announcer/scorer's tower has been completely redone and a brand new scoreboard is currently being installed. With all of these improvements already completed and several more on the way, the future at Jackson Motor Speedway is looking bigger and brighter than ever.
The new era at JMS will get underway on Saturday, April 5th as the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series (MSCCS) Super Late Models invade the racy oval in a $2,500 to win, 50 lap event. Grandstand general admission for the event is $15. Pit admission is $30.
Another change for 2008 will be the race times. In an effort to get everyone on the road home at an earlier time, all of the start times have been moved up one hour. Pit gates open at 4 pm with the grandstand area opening at 5 pm. Hot laps will be at 6 pm with drivers meeting 6:30 pm and heat races at 7 pm. A full compliment of weekly racing divisions will be in action including Super Late Models, Limited Late Models (Late Model Stock & Crate Late Models), UMP Open Wheel Modifieds, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Stingers.
Full purses for all divisions as well as an updated schedule will be posted on the track website within the next week. For more information on this event and all of the exciting 2008 events at Jackson Motor Speedway, please visit www.JacksonMotorSpeedway.net .
