CLEVELAND, Tenn. (February 25) - Cleveland Speedway is ready to kick off the 2008 racing season with a bang. East Tennessee's premier clay oval will open with the 13th Annual Southern All Star/Sonya's Used Cars Shamrock 60 on Saturday night March 15. The annual event will pay $7,500 to the winner.

For the 2008 season Cleveland Speedway has been able to hold the line on the price for grandstand tickets for regular weekly racing. As it has been for a number of years adults are $12, kids 6-11 are $3 and under six are free. Due to a healthy increase in insurance pit passes will be $22 this year. The pricing for special events will vary and will be announced for each event.

For the Sonya's Used Cars Southern All Star Shamrock 60 Grandstands will be $17 for adults. Kids 6-11 are $3 and under six are free. The pits will be $30.

"Nobody has to tell us money is tight and or the price of gas and everything else is up," said Cleveland owner and promoter Monty Morrow who has seen fuel prices add another $400 a week to the cost of preparing the track. "Like everyone else we are doing the best we can and are trying to keep our prices as low we can. We were able to keep the grandstand ticket prices the same for another year, but we had to go up in the pits a couple of dollars."

In support of the Super Late Models there will be racing in all regular divisions, Limited/Crate Late Models, A and B Hobby, Pony and Front Runners.

In addition to the season opening Shamrock 60 paying $7,500 to win Midnight Oil Racing Fuels Qualifying Award will pay $250 to the fast qualifier and $100 to the second fastest. Plus the fast qualifier in the Limited/Crate Late Model event will pick up $100 and $50 will go to the second highest qualifier.

For the Shamrock the pit gates will open at 2 pm and the grandstands at 3 pm. Racing is scheduled to start at 6 pm.

Prior to the opener there will be an open practice for all divisions on March 11. The gates will open at 4 pm with practice until 9 pm. There will be a $10 charge for the pits, but the grandstands are free.

Racing every Saturday night from March to November Cleveland Speedway is East Tennessee's finest clay oval. The track is located on US Hwy 11 (Lee Highway) just north of the US 64 bypass in Cleveland, Tenn. For more information call the track (423) 479-8574. Or visit www.clevelandspeedway.com/
