COLUMBUS SPEEDWAY STARTS SEASON WITH ANNUAL GOLDEN TRIANGLE CHAMPIONSHIP

COLUMBUS, Miss. (February 21) - The 2008 weekly racing season at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, Mississippi officially kicks off in a little over a week with the 8th Annual Golden Triangle Championship.

The weekend gets underway with an open practice for all classes on Friday night, February 29th starting at 6:30 pm. On Saturday, March 1st, the 2008 season gets underway with racing action at t 6pm featuring the 8th Annual Golden Triangle 25 Super Late Model Championship main event. The Super Late Models will be competing in Midsouthracing.com Pole Qualifying, a consolation event if necessary, and the 25-Lap main event. The race is also the first 2008 Rebel Challenge Weekly Racing Series points paying event of the year.

All of the Columbus Speedway Weekly Racing Series divisions will also be in action in the first points paying event of the season.

A stout field of race teams in all divisions is expected to be on hand Saturday night with hot laps at 5:30 and racing scheduled for a 6:00pm start. All local divisions will be in action including Open Wheel Modifieds, Late Model Stocks, NeSmith.com Weekly Racing Series Late Models, and Street Stocks.

On Saturday, the grandstand gates open at 4pm with racing at 6pm. Adult grandstand admission $12. Discounted tickets are offered for seniors 65 and over, active military, and students ages 11 to 18 admitted for only $10. Children ages 10 and under are admitted free. Lawn chairs and coolers are welcome. Pit passes are $25.

The event may see some surprise entries as drivers vie for extra laps around the Bullring prior to the upcoming 7th Annual Brown Engineering Rebel Challenge, which will rock Columbus Speedway on March 7th-8th, 2008 and offer $8,500 possible to win for Super Late Models plus increased purses for Open Wheel Modifieds, Late Model Stocks/Crate Late Models, and Street Stocks.
