ARCHDALE, N.C. (February 3) - Earl Pearson Jr. and the Bobby Labonte Motorsports Team competed at Golden Isles Speedway during the Super Bowl of Racing this past week. Earl and the team competed every night earning a starting position in the feature every night. Earl and the team's best outing was Monday night January 28th when Earl started from the 5th starting position and blasted to the lead on lap 9 passing Billy Moyer, Chub Frank, Chris Madden and Steve Francis to drive away and earn the victory. The 50-lap event sanctioned by UMP paid $10,000 to Earl for his win.

"It was a great win for me and the team. I have a lot of family and friends in this area and many were here tonight to see us get the win. My crew, Randal, Keith and Matt did an excellent job preparing the car and it drove flawlessly. I really enjoy racing here at Golden Isles Speedway. I have a lot of memories growing up and starting my racing career here and it's always great to come back and win here", stated Earl.

Earl and the team enjoyed their win and had several good runs including 3 top five finishes during the entire Super Bowl of Racing at GIS. There was a lot of speculation about tires and drivers cheating tires during the events. Several reports and information that has been posted does not accurately state the facts from the events at GIS.

"First let me state the facts concerning what exactly happened the night I won. Before qualifying UMP officials checked several drivers tires as we staged for qualifying including punching my tires with a durometer before I ever qualified. I was told my tires were good as per the punch rule in which the tires must punch 40 or harder. The facts about another driver have been not corrected posted. Scott's tires punched too soft before and after qualifying. But UMP did not disqualify Scott it was a GIS official that threw Scott out. It was after I won the feature that Scott came to the front straight away and demanded my tires be checked that I had cheated. From that point UMP and track officials followed me to my pits and asked me to remove my left side tires. They took my left front and left rear tires to the tech shed where they proceeded to check my tires. They never did break the tires down off the rims. They did check and punch the tires several times and determined that my tires met the minimum criteria for hardness which is 40. From that point both Sam of UMP and the track officials ruled my tires legal and declared me the winner. In my opinion the whole thing got out of hand after Scott was found to have illegal tires and tried to point fingers at our team. We never complained about drivers cheating up tires even after all this took place," stated Earl.
