Ben Shelton VICKSBURG, Miss. (February 3) - It took 16 years for Bub McCool to finally get it done, but on Saturday the wait was over as he conquered the Bull Ring at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, Mississippi by picking up the $3,000 payday in the 8th Annual Carl Hogan Honda Winter Classic.
Bub has led countless laps at Columbus Speedway in his career, but he has never been able to lead the final and most important one. That all changed on Saturday in the 8th Annual Carl Hogan Winter Classic. Bub started the afternoon by setting quick time for his group and second quick time overall. His qualifying efforts earned him an outside front row starting position for the 40 lap main event. At the drop of the green flag, McCool shot to the lead and endured a caution plagued event to lead all 40 laps en route to his first feature win of 2008.
"It feels awesome to finally win at this place," McCool proclaimed as he climbed from behind the wheel of his #57j Trakstar/Barker Racing Engine Super Late Model in victory lane. "I've been wanting this one for a long time."
Bub will take a few weeks off as the team tries to figure out which event that they will hit next in 2008. For the latest news and schedule information, please visit www.BubMcCool.com . Bub and everyone at McCool Motorsports would like to thank all of their sponsors, which include McCool Logging, Barker Racing Engines, Trak-Star Race Cars, Phase 2 Sign Supply, X-Treme Graphics by J-Rod, Boland Performance, Phase II Graphics, & MSRMafia.com.
