COLUMBUS, Miss. (January 21) - The 8th running of the Carl Hogan Honda Winter Classic at Columbus Speedway will be held at 2pm this Saturday afternoon January 26th. There will also be an open practice session on Friday evening January 25th from 5pm until 8pm. The Winter Classic will feature four divisions in action including Super Late Models, the NeSmith Late Models National Series, Open Wheel Modifieds, and Street Stocks.

The Super Late Models will be competing in a 40-lap main event paying $3,000 to win. The Stormpay.com Late Model Series will be competing in another 40-lap main with $2,500 going to the winner in their second point's race of the year. The Open Wheel Modifieds will have their $1,000 to win championship with a 20-lap main. The Street Stocks will have a 15-lap $300 to win main event to conclude the event.

Last year in the Super Late Model portion of the event, it was Tony Knowles from Tyrone, Georgia picking up his first ever Super Late Model feature win. Knowles will be back at the Bullring this weekend to defend his title, but he will have a strong field of competitors to conquer including Bub McCool, Jason Smith, Dewaine Hottinger, David Gentry, and Mike Boland.

Fans and drivers should also make note the 2008 racing schedule is pretty much complete with the exception of some minor changes. It is on the schedule link at www.columbusspeedway.net . The schedule offers virtually everything a race fan could want by keeping a fresh combination of top drivers from all over the south and the country coming to Columbus, Mississippi to compete with the best drivers in the area throughout the season.

A sampling of the upcoming schedule will include the month of March. The Bullring will be roaring early when the days are still short and traction is still high. It's hammer down time on the wild 3/10's mile high banked clay oval in the month of March with the season opener featuring the 7th Annual Golden Triangle Championship RCWRS Plus a Weekly Series Event on Saturday March 1st. The action really kicks into high gear with the 7th Annual Rebel Challenge weekend on March 7th and 8th.
