Delph Communications BATESVILLE, Ark. (January 12) - GRT Race Cars and Batesville, Arkansas Dirt Late Model superstar Wendell Wallace have reached an agreement in recent days to join forces once again for the 2008 racing season. Wendell will pilot Joe Garrison's GRT "House Car" throughout the year, hitting all of the premier Dirt Late Model events across the country. The newly-formed team hopes to have their equipment in place in time to enter the annual 'Winternationals' at the East Bay Raceway Park in Gibsonton, Florida from February 4-9 to kick off their 2008 season.
This is Wendell's second stint behind the wheel of the GRT "House Car." From 1997-2003, the combination of Joe Garrison, Wendell Wallace, and crew chief Todd Moser (a.k.a. Little Man) captured multiple big race wins and were ultra-consistent on the now-defunct Hav-A-Tampa Dirt Series. The trio stood tall in victory lane at such events as the 'Show-Me 100,' the 'Topless 100,' the 'Dirt Track World Championship,' the 'Hav-A-Tampa Shootout,' and the 'Masters 100' just to name a few. Joe, for one, is very excited about teaming back up with the driver known as the "Batesville Bullet!"
"Having Wendell and Little Man relocate back here to Greenbrier should be a great thing for everyone involved," commented GRT owner Joe Garrison recently. "Since we dismantled the house car program at the end of 2003 with Wendell, we still maintained a close working relationship, but not as close as before when we were all together here in the shop. With Wendell back in the seat of the GRT house car, we can provide him with the factory support and the resources he needs to be successful, while he can provide me with direct feedback on our cars. Plus, with the cars housed right here at GRT, I can be more hands-on with the operation, which will help in providing technical assistance to all GRT customers over the phone."
Joe went on to add, "Wendell and I have always worked well together and have a great understanding of each other. The in-house program that we have put together will allow us to test and R&D more effectively and provide better information to all Team GRT drivers. Not to say that other drivers like Clint Smith, Terry Phillips, Skip Arp, and Rick Eckert don't work closely with us, but the fact that they are scattered throughout the country limits the time, testing, and development we can do with them. Wendell's return to the GRT shop will also benefit Jack Sullivan, as his equipment is located here at the shop as well and those two work very well together. Needless to say, I am very excited that the old gang is back together and we all look forward to a great 2008 season!"
The newly-formed GRT "House Car" program has already secured support from the following sponsors: J&J Steel, GRT Race Cars, Gaerte Engines, JFR Graphics, Sunoco Race Fuels, Garrett Racing, C&S Cable Construction, Delph Communications, Integra Shocks, Port City Racing, Wilwood, Sweet Mfg., Hoosier Racing Tires, and Frankland Racing Supply. More sponsors will be announced as the 2008 season nears for the team. "We have our work cut out for us to get ready for East Bay, but that is our plan," quoted Wendell Wallace today. "We still have some cars to get built and have to get our transporter situation sorted out by then, but everything is coming together nicely. It feels great to be back "home" again with Joe and hopefully we can have a great season together. After the Durrett's sold out earlier this off-season, I wasn't quite sure what I was going to do this year, but Joe stepped up and wanted to get the in-house program going again. We had a great run for seven years our first time around and we are looking for the same success in 2008."
